@Loukas I think a lot of people use it in a relatively good faith manner since the symbol aims to represent the proletariat. I personally am not a fan of it even though I come from a Hindu background and very beautifully understand how a "good" symbol can be abused to propagate genocide and violence.

If communism in itself isn't inherently genocidal, but was co-oped to represent genocidal regimes, the same way hakenkreuz bastardized the hindu swastika, can we really rightfully associate hammer and sickle with the regimes that used it as a means of representation?

Personally, really difficult topic for me.

@Loukas @laxsill this is more of an issue of bad faith adoption of valuable symbols. The swastika was indeed chosen with its Hindu meaning in mind, which could be made into an argument itself against the global use of the symbol in the modern age. Isn't that what's happening with hammer and sickle too? I dont like it because it is associated with genocidal regimes, but is it inherently representing something genocidal? Its already hard to distinguish between hakenkreuz and swastika, innit.

@juliaclement I think its a slippery slope. The moment we decide its okay for an algorithm to study someone's likes and the kind of content it likes (using certain keywords and such), it would then become increasingly difficult to draw the line with time.

You are also not wrong that the major use from the right comes against the corporate-appropriated use of social justice movement, the issue comes when the right associates such inauthenticity (as a virtue) on the part of corporations with the social movement itself to confirm their biases of such movements coming from ill-intentions and lack of a concrete foundation

The term "woke" has become a weaponised term by the alt-right to demean any and all social justice conversation that goes against the status quo by deeming them all to be coming from a sense of narcissistic grandiosity rather than authentic academic study.

Basically an ad hominem attack on all social work that goes against their beliefs.

@pixelfed looks cool but I’d be wary of putting a particular user’s profile photo (as a form of representation for the project) on the front page given their current moral affiliations with respect to the major world events happening currently (non-directly speaking)

Is @owncast #federated? if yes, will it be possible to create a mobile app for it that creates a feed for various #streams by adding their self hosted link and following them like an #RSS feed with push notifications?

Maybe even have some discovery features in the likes of how #mastodon app is able to recommend posts from other instances too?

@jwildeboer "woke" is just another bad faith, straw man argument where someone instantly assumes and hence concludes that anyone who claims to care for a certain cause is doing so to "look awakened, special, smart, good person". It is done to decredit and deligitmize most social movements by the ones standing against those movements by gas lighting people observing the movements.
