   Right, here's the plan:

   A big problem with FediTips is that the same tips get repeated quite often because not everyone saw them the first time.

   Then, if people half-remember a tip they saw on here, or if they want to find out more about a topic, there's no easy way for them to look it up later.

   So, I'm going to change the format of this account to be based around a web page:

   https://growyourown.services/an-unofficial-guide-to-mastodon-and-the-fediverse

   (It forms part of a site I run at https://growyourown.services to encourage non-technical people to host their own online services.)

   I'll gradually add sections to the page covering tips from the past year, and will post updates about it on FediTips as I do so.

   Any new tips featured on FediTips will also be added to the page. That way, there's always somewhere people can go to to easily catch up on tips they missed.

   Any thoughts on this as a plan? Honest feedback appreciated! :blobcat:

     The main link takes you to a page with all those sections on it. Maybe I should make this clearer.

     There didn't seem to be any point linking them all because they all led to the same page.

     I've added an anchor link to the index page, clicking on a particular section will take you straight there on the page.

     Does the anchor link work okay for you? It should take you straight to the "What is Mastodon" question.

     @feditips Excellent! As soon as I read one, I went ahead and read them all, even though I’ve followed you for a couple months. It seems like writing them one at a time has let you polish them into clear, concise entries. Or maybe you’re just a good writer. :-)

     You might consider making your repeat posts for different time zones just a title and link to the web entry, after posting the first time in full. Or just keep repeating as you have done, it doesn’t bother me.

     Easiest way to follow through RSS would probably just be an RSS of this account, i.e. https://mstdn.social/@feditips.rss

     If i use FediTips for updates on the page, you'd see the updates on the FediTips RSS.

     p.s. I've added an Accessibility section, hopefully it gives an idea of how the groupings of tips will work. It won't just be one big long list of tips.

     Umm... thanks for the vote of confidence :)

     I think it's better for me to stay unofficial though, so I can give a more honest opinion about Fediverse stuff.

     Also, not sure they would want my writing anyway ?

     @feditips Also, seeing your title *Unofficial* guide to masto made me think... Maybe you could make it official somehow? Maybe have it added to official Masto documentation? (as in, it's present in both places) I'm sure this would be beneficial for both you and the Mastodon project in general. Give more visibility to your page, and give masto users nice tips and tricks!

     Mastodon.social is just one server, there's nothing technically special about it! :)

     About multiple accounts, I'm not totally sure what you're asking to do?

     If you have accounts on several different servers, you can be logged in on all of them at once, but you'll have to have them open in separate tabs.

     Alternatively, some apps let you switch between accounts. For example, if you hold down the profile icon in the official Mastodon app, it lets you switch accounts.

     1/2 Thanks, that's pretty useful. IMHO it should mention mastodon.social and the fact it's kind of like "the mothership". But anyway

     There is one thing that I still can't get my head around - how do people handle multiple accounts? I'm on mastodon.social. I create an account with Bookwyrm and another on a small local instance. All with the same email address. But they don't know about each other because federation. OK, fine. But what do people do in those cases?

     Mastodon Search bar?
     Eugen [1] will strongly not implement full text search for posts or near future (would be good if we could choose) so back to 'my' suggestion for your posts being searchable since it's priceless help to Mastodon!

     (I'm glad it is making progress in some other way)

     I would be looking for a search bar (I might have missed it before) and autocomplete from it

     (though this might be done via CTRL-F if on one page)

     I'd like to hear why not a basic self-hosted Wordpress (apart from aesthetics and the choice of pre-Gutenberg V5 or post-V5 versions --> of which I have pre-V5 in my example above)

     AND IF there was a Mastodon to Wordpress (I don't think there is) then the reverse of this plugin below would also seems to make sense

     Happy to hear what are the downsides to doing it the Wordpress to Mastodon way and also if there was a 2-way or Sync Thing between them

     @feditips I don't mind some repeated tips, they don't seem to happen all that often

     I see the tips as a circular buffer, just keep posting the next tip when it's time occasionally removing and adding tips to keep the list current

     Adding them to a site is also good

     Had to redraft as I forgot to actually say thank you for the tips

     I've added more categories to the page, with a single tip in each category as a placeholder:

     The idea is I'll gradually add more tips onto the page so that it builds up into something people can refer to.

     I'll post on FediTips when a new tip is added.
