    @dajb @potato_lisper @bonfire

Yes, #Bonfire would come a long way to supporting things out of the box and it can be flexibly extended.

Btw, I don't have a #fitness tracker myself, but looked at the #Strava activity types and they are mighty versatile. Somehow I mostly associated them with running :)

@humanetech@mastodon.social @dajb@social.coop perfectly it would be mix between strava and myfitnesspal where you could track everything fitness, will use OSM for maps and have some challenge aspect like Fibit bingo or Strava challenge sections (don't remember how they are called). I would skip implementing tracking apps, as mentioned earlier we have good apps there, just integration with them (automatic exports)

Instead of #Strava the software might be facilitating open technologies.

I have a bunch of example projects on the awesome humane tech curated list I maintain, like #GadgetBridge, #FitoTrack, #OpenTracks and #GoldenCheetah

    As for #privacy..

    - People should be in full control of what they share

    - They might share first to their Circle or Club. A group of friends or local sports club

    - Clubs might share generalized non-PII metrics

    - Then there are public Challenges. "The London Marathon", "Climb the Mont Blanc", "My town's yearly local sports event" where it is perfectly fine if they are public, and you can say "I participated in the Nijmegen 4-day walk and improved my last year's record"

#Strava blocks API access if it finds apps to be competitive with their app.

Example is Segment Challenge, an #Elixir app that demonstrates the flexibility of applying Domain Driven Design (DDD). Website was shut down by Strave revoking API access.

But the project could be a basis for a #Fediverse app that works with other fitness-tracking devices, more open ones at that.

PS. There's no License, so I just created an issue to ask about that.

Oh, that is a nice service. If you know your way with eatable shrooms then it is really paradise cooking.

Reminds me about 2 French guys from Normandy who were roommates while I was at university. They told me that in the season the entire teen population is out and about in nature.. to collect the hallucinatory kinds ?

@rhiaro there was this series featuring Gordon Ramsey traveling the world and discover all kinds of delicious local foods.

In one program he enthusiastically collects chanterelles, almost cooking with them. Only to hear from the mushroom expert who just arrived that they are false chanterelles and quite deadly when consumed.

Then I thought that mushroom picking was probably too adventurous for me, if they even fool master chefs :D

@blacklight Some searx instances are fed by a locally running #yacy which does the crawling, so you can also get a greater degree of independence from the giants. I noticed a lot of your results grab from both DDG & Qwant. Both DDG & Qwant are MS syndicates, so you could drop one of them and replace with #Mojeek or #Gigablast (which do their own independent crawling).

    #searchengines #selfhost

I got tired of putting my trust search engines that run on somebody else's machine.

DuckDuckGo blocks all trackers, but it silently whitelists Microsoft's (because of the commercial agreement they have with Bing), except that they failed to mention it until they were caught with their hands in the jar.

Startpage is Dutch, it's notoriously sensitive on privacy and it's been around for longer than Google, but it's now been acquired by an ads company and I don't see things going well for it.

Brave claims to be the ultimate solution for privacy, except when they put some crypto miner to run in your browser so they can make a bit of extra money on the side.

So I've decided to take even this matter into my hands and run my own search engine. You can access it at https://search.fabiomanganiello.com. It runs SearXNG in a Docker container on one of my servers at home. It's a bit slower than major search engines, but not that much, and it's still a little price I'm ready to pay for freedom.

    Thanks @kas

Hi there, I started the #delightful project and am co-maintainer of these three lists, together with @lightone

The lists are input to https://fediverse.party and also become part of https://delightful.club, an extension to the delightful project built and hosted by @yarmo on #Codeberg.

@flockingbird couldn't the search service be helped if it were also a Bot you can follow and boost?

My impression is that AcademiaEdu is focused on collaborative research. Another set of functions that could be interesting for such a social network. https://delightful.club/delightful-open-science/#collaborative-research
