I saw false chanterelles in the mushroom book last year and was like pffffttt they look nothing like chanterelles what idiot would fall for that. Yesterday I climbed up a steep bank and picked a load of... false chanterelles. Sigh. (I definitely did think they were a bit shifty at the time though.) #foraginghttps://rhiaro.co.uk/2022/08/saw-false
@rhiaro there was this series featuring Gordon Ramsey traveling the world and discover all kinds of delicious local foods.
In one program he enthusiastically collects chanterelles, almost cooking with them. Only to hear from the mushroom expert who just arrived that they are false chanterelles and quite deadly when consumed.
Then I thought that mushroom picking was probably too adventurous for me, if they even fool master chefs :D
Oh, that is a nice service. If you know your way with eatable shrooms then it is really paradise cooking.
Reminds me about 2 French guys from Normandy who were roommates while I was at university. They told me that in the season the entire teen population is out and about in nature.. to collect the hallucinatory kinds ?
Ah, "false chanterelles" is a species name. I thought it meant a false match in general. Can't remember which country Gordon was in when this happened. Can't find video either.
