The videos are just embedded from Peertube, I don't know why it doesn't work on iPhones. Can you try going to this peertube page instead - https://videos.trom.tf/w/p/fVpfZ9VfWrWawHkggKi7Wz

TROM II: A Message to the Aliens (documentary)
      from TROM
We live in a world where everyone is busy, everyone is consumed, everyone seems confused. Money, social credits, ads, data collection, prices and billionaires. Climate change? Who cares! A one-marble world, floating in a giant soup of stars and planets, clustered in donut-shaped galaxies. What are these humans living for? In a 5 hour, 4 parts documentary, we try to explore their world, to understand what makes them human, what makes them enslave their kind, destroy their habitat, and be unaware of their place in this universe. But also what makes them so special. Through the lives of 5 humans, we look at the culture that creates them, their struggles growing up on this planet, and where they are headed toward.

Honestly I think the only reason why it didn't became popular is because this wasn't made for money and was released exclusively to Peertube.

@rotfarm @tio my knowledge about this is very limited, but from what I understand Google is proposing a method for web developers to verify the integrity of users who visit their websites, so if this proposal becomes a success and people started implementing this verification on their websites then you won't be able to access those sites from firefox, unless firefox also implemented this thing in their browser.

I really hope I'm wrong here and that it won't affect firefox users.....

    @gdeihl
That is truly sickening to read. Giving orders to deny migrants water in extreme heat, pushing children into the Rio Grande river, and putting razor wire in the river to harm people who cross it - if this isn't considered "inhumane" then I don't know what is.

I'd like to share this short video made by my friends @bigworldsmallsasha and @sober_pirate called "Prison earth", as its becoming more relevant these days - https://videos.trom.tf/w/jrLmgWLj9nWsdXc4j438cU

Video inspired by Sasha's article - https://www.bigworldsmallsasha.com/2020/01/07/prison-earth/ and recorded/edited by Dima https://dmitrylisenko.com/ Welcome to Prison Earth. If you’re a very well-behaved inmate, you might not even realize that you’re locked up. If you never try to step outside, if you never question the guards or the other prisoners, and you do as they all do- work, work, work- slave your life away, and take “vacations” only when they let you, for as long as they let you- you might never even question the prison. You might be numb to it, quietly existing, working in the system, perhaps drinking or taking pills to cope with the lack of meaning in your imprisoned life. I hope you’re not like that. I hope you question, and take a step outside, at least with your own mind.

@apps I just tested it by turning on the wifi hotspot of another device and connecting to it from my phone, surprisingly the issue still persists. One thing to note here is that both phones use the same ISP, tomorrow I'll try connecting to another phone with a different ISP, to see if it connects better/faster with fosstodon. I'm sure this has something to do with the connectivity between my device and fosstodon servers, but for some reason tusky handles the situation better than fedilab does.

No, unfortunately it still requires a VPN for me to load new content, without a VPN I'm only able to view previously cached data.

I've tried with and without the built-in browser, and no I haven't set up any proxy inside fedilab, everything works fine when I'm on VPN but without it I wasn't able to login to Fosstodon.

@apps I removed some of the old access access tokens that I don't need anymore, but I still can't connect to Fosstodon from Fedilab. I'll try using some other mastodon app to test if it has something to do with my server or not.

I installed tusky from Fdroid now, and although it took some time for it to load the Fosstodon login page I was able to successfully login there. So its probably an issue with #Fedilab specifically, but I've been using that app for a very long time now and everything used to work fine until now. @apps any idea what might be causing this?

For some unknown reason my @fosstodon account stopped working on #Fedilab, I tried logging out of the app but now I can't log back in, when I select the fosstodon instance on Fedilab and hit continue it doesn't open up the login page like it should. I even tried reinstalling the app from #Fdroid but the issue persists.

@kev @mike did you guys make any changes to the server these past few days? @apps do you have any idea what might be causing the issue here? 🤔

(I'm now forced to use the webapp)

I don't think it was a good idea for instance admins to agree to talk to Meta under a nondisclosure agreement, but that DOESN'T make it an excuse for people to go and harass those admins. If anything they're the victims of Meta IMO, and a lot of them may still be in favor of blocking Meta regardless of whether they agreed to the meeting or not. I think we have to stick together in situations like this and act accordingly, keep in mind that "divide and conquer" is a proven strategy.

Its also important to acknowledge that Fediverse has the same kind of design flaws that made it possible for Google to take over the email ecosystem with their Gmail service, @aral has written a blog post that explains this problem very well - https://ar.al/2022/11/09/is-the-fediverse-about-to-get-fryed-or-why-every-toot-is-also-a-potential-denial-of-service-attack/

So the way to move forward would be to create a system which doesn't have these flaws, and the only way to do that is to somehow get rid of the power difference between the one who can run servers and the one who can't.

I'm also a big fan of these domain-less peer-to-peer services and have been keeping an eye on the developments there. One such decentralized p2p project I know is the @briar messenger and they've recently announced the release of their new Briar Mailbox app, which is an app you can just keep running on an old android device or something and it basically turns it into a server for sending & receiving your Briar messages! - https://briarproject.org/news/2023-briar-mailbox-released/

Briar Mailbox released to improve connectivity - Briar
Press release The Briar Project released a new Android app called Briar Mailbox today. Briar Mailbox is a helper app for Briar messenger that lets you receive encrypted messages from your contacts while Briar is offline. Next time Briar comes online it will automatically fetch the messages from your Mailbox. Likewise, you can send encrypted messages to contacts who are offline, and the messages will be delivered automatically when your contacts come online.
