I'm a member of the #IWW and some people may be interested in this internal journalist piece. Usually this would be published in union internal media but both its online forum and its US monthly newsletter have been made pretty much untenable:

Question for anyone who knows: what is the best way to download files from an ftp site via a bash shell?

I used to know how to do this when there were literally ftp sites. Now I want to download files from https://www2.census.gov/, which also in some sense exists as ftp://ftp2.census.gov/ . It allows anonymous logins. I have no idea how to do that via sftp, though, and ftp itself no longer exists as a command in my bash shell. I can get files from this site via a browser, or via a desktop program that uses sftp/ssh like Fileziia, but I'm trying to copy files to my server directly.

CEOs and senior executives don't care about making money for shareholders either. They care about compensation for themselves, and usually this involves pulling some sort of scam to make short-term numbers for shareholders look good while depressing the long-term numbers.

I wear my mask and luckily haven't gotten Covid yet (as far as I know). One of the other things I've started is bringing a Corsi-Rosenthal box along to inside spaces where I can. They are surprisingly light.

The Netherlands has a multi-party system just like reformers in the US want, reputable elections, biking infrastructure that people won't shut up about, a long tradition of social democracy, and just had a far-right election victory. The rise of fascism is not some trickery by Trump or the Russians or the US system: it's part of the world-wide failure of neoliberalism, which suppressed the left and then died.

As well they should. I'm a low carbon emission person (haven't flown in decades, electric car, converted heating oil boiler to heat pumps) but we just did a large natural experiment called Covid on individually reducing high carbon emission behavior and it made no difference. If someone does any good at all for the purpose of getting society to change for the better then no one should really care how much individual high carbon they do.

The whole concept of a personal carbon footprint comes from an ad campaign by British Petroleum:

They are shit technologies even if Internet was always on and you could always buy things with them because they were designed for pyramid schemes and currency speculation, not for actual transactions. Bitcoin has deflation built right into it so that the early miners / creators can get rich (as long as there are suckers). The whole blockchain thing is a badly designed database that can be used to track money.

I've interacted with a couple of people confused between the two (and saying bad things about individualist anarchism as a result) but it does sound like we are talking about different things. Luckily this American "post left" seems to have largely self destructed before it could be mobilized as another incarnation of "let's take the word 'libertarian', no one is using it".

Part of this is the difference between "post-left anarchism" (which is still anarchism, even according to a large majority of people who disagree with it), and the "post left", which was a US group of initially vaguely social democratic people disappointed with Bernie Sanders' loss that went rightward quickly and are now sort of the left wing of the alt-right. If you're not familiar with the minutae of US online politics you could easily mix them up.

In particular, I've really disliked the "Never Again" slogan for many decades now. It seems clear to me that people living in nation-states really like committing genocide and that nothing in the international system that we've set up really restrains people from genocide. There's something extra horrible about a "never again" slogan that is broken again and again.

The US bears special responsibility for ending whatever rhetorical commitment there was against genocide because we so obviously support death squads, official torture, deadly borders, forced relocation, concentration camps, and other adjuncts or preliminaries to full genocide and because the US was a primary author of the post WW II settlement that really made a commitment against it.

    Another world is not possible.

Too often I see "another world is possible" as an aspirational slogan used to get people to fantasize about quick changes, people rising up, lucky rolls of the historical dice etc. I don't believe in historical inevitability or historical progression through stages, but I do believe that our current world is an outgrowth of widespread basic beliefs that do not change quickly or easily. To make another world really possible, it has to finally become as inevitable as our current world is.

A lot of that has to do with having the courage to reject basic beliefs that inevitably lead to bad ends even if they temporarily can seem not that bad. If you believe in a state or in capitalism, your beliefs lead to all of the bad things happening now.

If you want the US to continue under the US Constitution, please stop using the "Never Again" slogan, if only out of some kind of basic human decency or respect for rationality.

It wasn't that literally nothing happened: a journalist pursuing a story from the papers was assassinated. Then nothing happened.
