an Overwatch streamer i follow a little bit got COVID on a flight back from TwitchCon (she was masking, her random seatmate with a cough and runny nose wasn't!), seemed to recover on a normal schedule, and is now experiencing stabbing chest pains when she breathes that doctors can't figure out.

i don't know how so many fucking people can just *ignore* what's happening here. so many people are getting hit with serious disabilities in the wake of their acute COVID infections. people we have parasocial relationships with, musical performers and streamers and YouTubers and podcasters and so on. not to mention family and friends obviously!

i understand the pressure to minimize so you don't have to do unpleasant and annoying things. truly, i do. i *hated* wearing a mask in my own home for 3 days until we could confirm my housemate didn't catch anything from her positive contact. it was actually quite emotionally difficult to contend with my own disabilities and the demands of isolation for my own protection. it's not easy!

but!! i still did it bc i know it was necessary for safety. but but i can understand being more relaxed than is probably wise, because it *is* hard to be doing all the right things. what i don't get is people who seem to believe *there is no threat at all*. i understand knowing there's a threat and falling short sometimes in your risk management. i don't understand living in this world and just... believing there is no risk to manage, vis a vis COVID19.

i am genuinely curious (and probably asking for trouble) but i am genuinely curious: everything i see about firings and blacklists related to #Israel & #Palestine is about people expressing support for Palestine. many posts and news articles about pro-Palestinian speech leading to firings. but i haven't seen anything about someone getting fired or blacklisted for pro-Israel speech. is it happening as well? does anyone have examples they can share with me?

there was a weird bit of discourse on twitter about “what would you, a white American, do if an Indigenous group rebelled” and the two responses allowed by the narrative were “i would do a genocide” and “i would happily let myself be merked”, ignoring the one actually good response: i would be providing them with material support so long as their aims and means were truly liberatory, and opposing them in addition to the state to the extent that they were not.

hell of a false dichotomy that implicitly supports genocidal behavior either way and like 90% of Twitter leftists fell for it.

i haven’t been around much lately. been working on my chronic illnesses. it’s going ok, but not fantastic.

a whole fuckton of infosec people went to Defcon, spread COVID amongst themselves and who knows how many others, and are now shitposting about it on Twitter

these same people would be *aghast* (or maliciously joyful) if someone left a computer connected to the internet with zero network protection measures.

and they all went to a superspreader event, took off their masks (Katelyn Bowden specifically admitted she masked for travel and then unmasked at the con), and decided that, actually viruses are cool and good when you let them into your *body*

the past three years have proven that almost no one is willing to forego the social benefits of unmasked activities. and those who are willing to forego those benefits, or have no other choice, simply disappear, effectively no longer existing.

the complete refusal of society to take COVID precautions seriously amounts to social death for anyone who will not or cannot risk infection.

open to evidence otherwise, but i’m skeptical.
