an Overwatch streamer i follow a little bit got COVID on a flight back from TwitchCon (she was masking, her random seatmate with a cough and runny nose wasn't!), seemed to recover on a normal schedule, and is now experiencing stabbing chest pains when she breathes that doctors can't figure out.

i don't know how so many fucking people can just *ignore* what's happening here. so many people are getting hit with serious disabilities in the wake of their acute COVID infections. people we have parasocial relationships with, musical performers and streamers and YouTubers and podcasters and so on. not to mention family and friends obviously!

i understand the pressure to minimize so you don't have to do unpleasant and annoying things. truly, i do. i *hated* wearing a mask in my own home for 3 days until we could confirm my housemate didn't catch anything from her positive contact. it was actually quite emotionally difficult to contend with my own disabilities and the demands of isolation for my own protection. it's not easy!

but!! i still did it bc i know it was necessary for safety. but but i can understand being more relaxed than is probably wise, because it *is* hard to be doing all the right things. what i don't get is people who seem to believe *there is no threat at all*. i understand knowing there's a threat and falling short sometimes in your risk management. i don't understand living in this world and just... believing there is no risk to manage, vis a vis COVID19.
