@thomasfuchs nailed it! (Although I was pretty loose in my guess)

I fully expect you to judge me right back, but I needed to be clear

Luke Kanies (lkanies@hachyderm.io)'s status on Thursday, 04-May-2023 07:48:58 JST Luke Kanies @atomicpoet @fediversenews as a former holder of a legacy blue check mark (I wrote key software twitter used in infrastructure)…
I think you are doing them quite a disservice. I would never give Musk money for twitter. And the blue check mark now means absolutely nothing other than you pay.
If it were just a means of confirming you are who you say you are, then many would have stuck with it.
But there’s zero actual verification now. So you can and do have impersonators with check marks

Luke Kanies (lkanies@hachyderm.io)'s status on Sunday, 16-Apr-2023 15:37:40 JST Luke Kanies @thomasfuchs I’m so confused by nostalgia for this era of macs. They were so horrible, both hardware and software. Before that, it was the happy Mac, and after was the power Mac/so X era. This bit in the middle was the worst (and also while I was using BeOS, Solaris, and Linux).
I have to assume some people — possibly you! — started using macs then and had a good experience. But it’s hard to fathom.

Luke Kanies (lkanies@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 24-Feb-2023 03:35:04 JST Luke Kanies @thomasfuchs sorry, I was too distracted by his accent, and by the fact that he kept pointing at his glass monitor with a screwdriver.
But yeah, I vaguely recall that. Just never had to deal much with it, thankfully.
I was the guy going around the office after hours testing the convergence on people’s trinitrons, because I noticed it and no one else did so I would always steal the best ones

Luke Kanies (lkanies@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 24-Feb-2023 03:29:21 JST Luke Kanies @thomasfuchs yeah. I never used monitors much from that era. But no doubt I’d rather increase my refresh rate than reduce the decay rate

Luke Kanies (lkanies@hachyderm.io)'s status on Friday, 24-Feb-2023 03:10:31 JST Luke Kanies @thomasfuchs I read the copy as saying the image on screen decays more slowly. That is, not refresh rate or display lag, but lag of the decay of the projected image.
So, I think, it’s saying that the next frame will arrive just as the previous frame is decaying from the glass, so there will not be a blank spot.

Just about the best thing about the Biden administration is their refocusing on the law’s actually on the books, and starting to crack down on monopolies.
