@thomasfuchs But so often 'Widescreen' from that era means 4:3 with black borders top and bottom leaving 16:9 being not just the ratio but the actual resolution 😬 DVDs from that era are frequently potato quality 😞

@thomasfuchs I remember seeing this in the cinema at the time and thinking it looked bad even by the standards of the day. James Cameron's crown was safe.

@evan This is my main problem with Pixelfed and Peeryube. What I suspect I really want is different operating modes for my Mastodon client.

@jwildeboer Comic strips are the ones I notice most often. The worst is when somebody goes to the effort of cropping the bottom pixels to remove the author's name. Why? Leaving out a link is just lazy, but why actively remove attribution?

@aral @jgamble @xbezdick If you'd levelled the same criticism at RHEL it might have been valid.

@goatsarah The only expansion I know is Home Owners Association. I'm guessing it's not that, or if it is there's additional context.

@aral I take your point, but picking on a specific internet facing organisation for using an ad network in the current environment is arbitrary. You can apply the same to almost everybody.
If you pay them, is their site still broken if you use a blocker? That would make them douchebags imho.

@aral I have sympathy for this message. It's irritating, but they have no obligation to provide services for free. What could they do instead which would be better?
