@chronohart @shiri @snarfed.org One thing that occurs to me is the bluesky TOS:

"By sharing User Content through Bluesky Social, you grant us permission to: <lots of stuff>"

An opt out bridge simply can't obey that.. they don't have rights to grant permission to mastodon posts they don't own. Opt in they can have a TOS with similar wording that says you agree to allow that stuff to happen.

@evan @oliphant @snarfed.org Indeed but it would have to given that it's proposed to be a single instance.
It's also going to need insane amounts of bandwidth.. being a central pipe for potentially millions of messages is not cheap.

Much better would have been a per mastodon instance relay, but this is the path they have chosen.

@evan @oliphant @snarfed.org Bluesky has algorithms which grab accounts and suggest them.. I presume when it federates it'll be caching lists of users and pushing them onto timelines as it does now..except now with potentially access to the entire fediverse..

This gateway is presumably going to appear to bluesky to be a single mega instance with 14 milllion users on it.. madness ensues.

@evan Until this post I didn't know such a thing existed. Not sure what to do with it though.. let's see if this works..

@thomasfuchs 4GL, which begat things like Uniface
    MFC..
    VB..

All were supposed to make programming 'just clicking buttons' and all failed completely.

AI is more of the same.

@Porcia @quixoticgeek Absolutely, the hole in the argument that 'we'll just pipe hydrogen to houses' is that no such pipe work exists. The natural gas piping is, from a hydrogen atom's point of view, full of holes.

This is why nobody is seriously thinking of hydrogen heating any more, except a few lobbyists.

What in the fresh hell are Google playing at. Requiring apps to be tested by a team of 20 testers? That kills solo development and most small to medium sized companies. It's not remotely reasonable.

We produce apps for both platforms because it's really not much effort to target both. If google demand a testing team larger than the actual company we just drop android. It's not even a hard decision.

@SeanJones It's so stupid.. why limit at that level? If you're earning you're paying tax and are net positive to the country's balance sheet.. the government should *want* more people paying tax. Instead it all gets thrown away because 'migrants bad'.

@aral They started out by trying to verify you after they were the ones calling you..

I always want some form of verification from their end first - if necessary I'll call them back on a known number.

@csolisr @edendestroyer @feditips @NanoBookReview The problem is kbin isn't ready yet.. their github page prominently says "This is a very early beta version, and a lot of features are currently broken or in active development, such as federation."

Personally I'm not jumping on either right now.. waiting for a clear winner.. but kbin sounds like it's way behind.

@evan Train is too unreliable and expensive in the UK, so car is the only option.

I can't see how planes would ever make sense for that journey.
