   The Govt appears to have confirmed that the requirement that you earn £38,700 before your foreign national spouse can live with you in the UK will apply to visa renewals for spouses already in the country.      @SeanJones If I understand this correctly, it will cause foreigners here for academic work to move to other countries, yet further reducing our soft power. And of course other students/postgrads won’t consider coming here in the first place.
     A more subtle effect may be a reduction in volunteers. I have worked on charity projects here in Cambridge staffed almost entirely by the spouses of foreigners working or studying here.

     @SeanJones It's so stupid.. why limit at that level? If you're earning you're paying tax and are net positive to the country's balance sheet.. the government should *want* more people paying tax. Instead it all gets thrown away because 'migrants bad'.
