@dansup also you’re not running ads so you aren’t incentivized to breathlessly drive engagement without regard to whether it’s being enjoyed by users; you can just make it as a way for people to discover things they’re likely to enjoy!
I can't speak for events that haven't happened yet or for every city but based on my own experience and everything I saw earlier this year, the #NoKings protests are a really accessible entry into protesting.
It's a really fun crowd, felt super safe, and there was safety in numbers.
When history books are talking about it you can proudly say "I marched".
1: in the US I can donate using pretax dollars which allows me to contribute considerably more 2: I can submit those contributions to be matched 1:1 by my employer through Benevity
@juuh42dias Amy and I used to be in the same department at GitHub and she's awesome!
We had a great discussion once about incident response.I described the anxiety I felt being on call. She suggested that when I join a call, I think of myself as a subject matter expert coming on to help out, and that my job was to help evaluate what systems are having issues and translate that to what it means for my product.
It really transformed how I approach it and I have a lot less stress when I'm paged.
@inthehands one factor I’m thinking about for future bikes is the ability to move from a complete stop.
E-bikes are a big improvement over standard bikes (esp with throttle) but I still find it’s a little slow to get going, especially if I wasn’t downshifting several gears before stopping.
I’ve heard CVTs can be a great solution for that; was this a concern for you? And what were your experiences?
@ryanhoulihan My wild guess prediction is Tammy Baldwin. She's in a must-win state like Whitmer, if elected a Dem governor would appoint her replacement, also I think she was the first lesbian elected to the Senate which is pretty badass.
I feel like this undercurrent of "we're spending all our political capital with a woman of color nominee; we have to pick a cishet white dude as the running mate" is just too cynical of a take.
@inthehands ah, missed that nuance! So the root of her issue was continuing to just rely on the contact info of the people who reached out to her instead of reaching out to known real Amazon CS agents.
idk, maybe my sensitivity is more heightened to this since i did read Kevin Mitnick's social engineering book, but the author acts like this was a sophisticated attack which in some ways it was, but also it was trivially easy to debunk.
@inthehands the crazy thing about this con is that it plays like it could be straight out of one of Kevin Mitnick's books on social engineering.
And the entire con would have been stopped cold had this author done the trivial thing of 1) being suspicious that Amazon was doing a voice call in the first place because calling people is too expensive, and then 2) going and checking her Amazon account or at least calling Amazon back at their known number.
@winter This makes me want to start a music streaming service where I am collecting $120 a year for every user, but I am paying 80% of that to artists, and instead of a fixed price per stream, artists will get paid a different amount per subscriber based on their share of that subscriber's listens that month.
If I listen to only a single artist that year, they get all $96.
As Jimmy Carter is in his final days, it's worth reflecting on how criminally underrated he was as a person and a president. He was so ahead of his time in terms of his focus on progressive issues, and has been incredibly humble both as president and in his time after the presidency.
The fact that he has a reputation of being a mediocre president is an absolute disgrace.
@Gargron I‘ve been seeing “error: too many requests” a lot in the last several days myself. I suspect it might be that I’ve been playing with a lot of clients and maybe too many are refreshing often enough that I got rate limited.
Would love to see these limits increase! I think they’re all authenticated requests too.
