@aral @_elena I don't understand the EC here, like just use Mastodon, or pay Mastodon/fedi devs to build a "custom" (read still 100% interoperable) version. None of that requires VC funding, and Mastodon is already EU developed (last I checked Germany is in the EU).

@gamingonlinux @carlrichell thank you to everyone who helped push for these reforms to the age verification bills.

ideally, age-verification at the OS-level, and the related push to age-verify everything should be abolished entirely. absent that, I am happy to hear news of these small victories

@corbet it bodes well for proponents of outright banning LLM contributions to the kernel. just ban that shit, it's not that hard.

some people will disregard the policy. upon being caught out, ban them from all kernel spaces. simple as

@cwebber you know, I have been meaning to try out Guix. their work on reproducible builds is really impressive.

    thanks for the pointer! 💜

@cwebber this is so disheartening... they are opening up huge attack vectors that they absolutely don't have to.

wonder how big the bribe was to get systemd maintainers to start using Claude?

time to start shopping around for non-systemd distros, I guess. thanks assholes

@soatok @pius no, what I want is a single tool that encrypts, and signs the encrypted file. I want confidentiality + integrity from the encryption, and integrity + authenticity from the signature. one tool makes it easier to integrate in email clients, package managers, etc.

it could easily be one tool that brings in two tools as libraries, and just handles the glue + UI/UX.

"go-go-gadget-bullshit" is an interesting way to describe a tool to help people adopt modern standards

@soatok @pius re: kill PGP, is there a single tool that handles encrypting with age, and signing with another modern equivalent?

@nullagent yup, and when you do that in C you create memory corruption. In Rust, you get a safe panic, with a backtrace.

There is also extensive documentation, and culture around practicing panic-safety: https://doc.rust-lang.org/nomicon/exception-safety.html

So tell me again how a megacorp's shitty coding practices are Rust's fault again?
