    Autistici/Inventati’s Press Release, 5 September 2026
Banca etica shuts down A/I funds

This is not surprising. Sanctions make you toxic - nobody wants to be accused of terrorism financing or money laudnering. Your bank accounts are frozen and centralized services deplatform you (some may remember TornadoCash and other similar cases).

There are two solutions to this problem: physical cash and decentralized digital currencies. Physical cash only works at small scale, and in some places it is gradually being phased out. The second solution is better. However, A/I donation page says "Sorry, but we don’t accept Bitcoin" and links to a post from 2013 explaining that bitcoins "do not give any specific advantage compared to a normal bank account" and is a "pump & dump done to dupe the ultra-libertarian anarco-capitalists".

Well, fortunately, ultra-libertarian anarco-capitalists didn't see it that way and have spent all these years studying the blade building a parallel financial system which nobody can shut down - even US.

Bitcoin is not perfect but it is much better than a bank because no one can shut down your account. You shouldn't be accepting donations in Bitcoin, though - that would put donors at risk. The chain is transparent and the privacy tricks that exist in Bitcoin (e.g. mixers) are generally counter-productive when you're facing a powerful adversary because they make you stand out of the crowd. The real purpose of Bitcoin is to be a bridge between fiat money and Monero, where everything remains hidden: the sender, the recipient and the transcation amount. Besides meeting in person, it is the only safe way to buy a coffee for a Specially Designated Global Terrorist @cavallette

@beaucoup @cavallette If you spend those bitcoins in a way that is linked to your identity, donors will be exposed.

Also, if you spend them together, that would reveal that all addresses have the same owner

Would you say that the more Bitcoin is adopted, the less your identity will be exposed? Because people would to pay each other more in BTC

Yes, but I think the privacy boost would not be significant even if the entire world switches to Bitcoin. Merchants who accept bitcoin have to comply with regulations, which may involve KYC. Companies that perform KYC share data with chain analysis companies, who have a gods-eye-view of the network.

I would accept the Bitcoin cost of pseudo anonymity, since I believe it's the path of least resistance in terms of avoiding a one world government.

Are you a Specially Designated Global Terrorist? :)

If not, I think there is no harm in accepting Bitcoin.

Because people would to pay each other more in BTC. Or will more adoption mean more people using custodial services like exchanges? And in turn be caught off guard when their funds get frozen. Also, if you spend them together, that would reveal that all addresses have the same ownerMonero beats Bitcoin there, but at a cost that makes hosting it more expensive, which lowers the grassroots adoption (people running nodes). I would accept the Bitcoin cost of pseudo anonymity, since I believe it's the path of least resistance in terms of avoiding a one world government.

they also advise not to try to "circumevent" and/or "route through another person" any financial contributions in their public statement.

Could you point me to that statement? I didn't see it.

This is probably the right thing to say. Because from the perspective of US government, any circumvention is money laundering.

@silverpill @cavallette they also advise not to try to "circumevent" and/or "route through another person" any financial contributions in their public statement. imagine that would also cover trying to route money to them via *any* cryptocurrency, even Monero. I hope they find a way through this.

      >i'm going to do both, advocate for a right tool like forgefed and complain that it seems development on it has stalled?

It has not stalled, but the work on Forgejo federation is very slow. However, there is a another ForgeFed implementation that seems to move faster: https://codeberg.org/activitypub-rs/activityforge

      >Cdeberg page signalling they have caved to the sithlords. (see 2.) what does it mean, silverpill?

      They don't like crypto: https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/org/pulls/1254#issuecomment-19820413

What it means for us, I don't know. I've set up a mirror on my own Forgejo instance, just in case

@silverpill @cy @cavallette i'm going to do both, advocate for a right tool like forgefed and complain that it seems development on it has stalled? This seems to have been a really bad few years for communication. I've now even seen a notice at the top of the Cdeberg page signalling they have caved to the sithlords. (see 2.) what does it mean, silverpill?

"Because from the perspective of US government, any circumvention is money laundering."

Exactly, they don't want anyone getting themselves or other orgs into legal trouble, and it could also jeopardize any future legal action A/I wants to pursue to get the sanction lifted.
