@Gargron that all sounds good but, I have been looking at the experience that I have so far, and the trending tab is my main discovery mechanism. I don't like following too much, I find the feed result very messy and difficult to deal with because the means available appear insufficient.

I just wish there was a way to have 'controls for the algorithm'.

@Gargron if these are going to be the laws going forward, as governments across the western world seem to be taking identical lock-step action, what's left that can still be accessed for those young people?

They will need a completely decentralized social alternative with no corporation/centralizing element. This might actually turn out to be the catalyst that the internet needs to become fully decentralized.

I expect those young people will find a way forward, perhaps to benefit us all.

@dalias @nicolaottomano @Em0nM4stodon is there anywhere that requires the telephone number to be registered with the government in relation to the ID? That is what I am now wondering(Canadian).

Is there a requirement and direct connection made through a government channel, or is it a nearly 'honour-system' from the phone company salesperson?

I'm seeing a lot of people saying this has already been in place for a while in their country, never was an issue.

@Em0nM4stodon if that happens and is coupled with laws requiring ID for the purchase of the phone/contract, we are looking at outright totalitarianism in tech.

Very interesting article. More questions: If my machine is so crappy and old that it can't run AI locally, am I essentially locally immune? (kinda)

Conversely, is this most likely to affect the best machines first? (they've got a lot of room)

@Mastodon I wish you all the best on improving the interface. I have only just started to learn the keybindings for the web interface, which seems pretty solid. There really isn't much advantage to using tut from the terminal unless you never intend to render the imagery.

There doesn't seem to be very much lacking from the interface, so hopefully you do not intend to change any of that.
