So while the community as a whole might love ordering pizzas and raiding, there's going to be a person there inevitably who knows how a computer works. More importantly; a lot of people probably incorrectly assumed 4chan was more secure than it actually was.

The problem with how it's implemented, is either two things can happen: a server can "strip" the attribute from a post, or there can be some security flaw allowing people to see your posts as with Pixelfed recently. A lot of privacy features on the fedi are like this, they rely on "good faith" implementations.

@sun @silverpill well in the link I found a complaint was "I signed up at this instance and then everyone blocked them" and it's a very common one in the Mastodon sphere, and you only know because your timeline dies out and interactions dip.

@silverpill also much of the problems have to do with the moderation culture of big mastodon servers as well imo

He felt some kind of way when people were trying to talk to him or even offering critique like "hey man you could make this 30 minute video, 10 minutes, just saying". So he wrote dramatic breakup letters and went to Bluesky where he could turn off replies to avoid feeling some type of way.

There's a lot of people who want to be able to "broadcast themselves" to the internet but not get replies so they don't feel some type of way.
