@Gargron I've had to make this exact point at work recently. But it's already like yelling at a hurricane. And any problems with it? Ah, they're just "familiarity" issues - ie, the AI can't be at fault so it must be you.
@dansup My career's been almost completely .NET apart from mobile and one PHP job I got even though I'd never coded it (I did tell them that). Damn was it simpler and easier than .NET! Not in a disparaging way - there was just far less bullshit. No planned obsolescence either, no endless debates about how to do something, you just did it. Only thing was trying to choose best MVC framework - CodeIgniter getting too old, risks over ownership, Laravel great but how long would it be supported etc.
โSo, the people who currently pay no taxes will leave the country if we make them pay taxes, and weโll lose all the taxes that they donโt pay. Thatโs right isnโt it?โ
@anderesu@nini@ChrisMayLA6 Well I wouldn't blame you. Know that millions of us fought against this though, and all I'd say is that would only serve the divisive onslaught by the far right - the rest of Europe is not immune - they are at work in Ireland, France, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, with varying degrees of success. Let the UK serve as a warning, sure, but as an EU member UK is inherently more progressive, and we are all better off together.
@anderesu@nini@ChrisMayLA6 Ok you need to understand something: we are at war. This is not a natural, social, economic trend - it is a very deliberate, concerted attack on democracy, our countries and cultures. If you've not yet seen your country split in two, families and friends bitterly divided, rights and services you take for granted under threat, then I am very happy for you and pray it never comes to Spain. But if I were you I'd get a bit more vigilant - they're coming for you too.
@anderesu@nini@ChrisMayLA6 Fair, fair points. I did know, and hadn't forgotten, but you've made me realise that I don't know much about the fault lines in contemporary Spanish society. I guess I was just going on how it appears from the outside - which is less fractured and less susceptible to current divisiveness by Fascists (though I don't know how much sentiment for Franco there may still be) but yes there was ETA, and the Catalan referendum. Please, tell me what things are like there now?
@anderesu@nini@ChrisMayLA6 Thank you for this detailed, fascinating, insightful reply! (All the more amazing that, I at least, am reading it all using the "translate" feature). I will think on this. Would you then say that these fissures are or are not being exploited and manipulated by troll and bot farms on social media yet? And what is the state of your mass media and news channels? Have they been taken over by coercive billionaires etc yet?
@tyil Wrong. I, and anyone else who's studied history or the history of Fascism, have been using it accurately and unwaveringly since its resurgence in ~2014. Just because Bannon et al, the so called alt-right and MAGA have thrown it back as an insult (the only level they understand) and this has for the middle/mainstream/layperson muddied the waters, leading to people thinking it's only a mud slinging match doesn't change the nature of Fascism or our warnings. And we've been entirely correct.
@tyil@eschaton No, Fascist very specifically means: 1. Uses an Other or Scapegoat onto which society's problems and inequalities can be blamed, such as Jews, Muslims, immigrants and refugees, encouraging and directing ire and outrage onto them and standing as their opposite and "solution." 2. Erodes trust in/dismantles/seizes the apparatus of government/democracy. Particularly the Rule of Law and Free Speech. 3. Emphasis on military might and discipline, increasing armament. 4. Authoritarian.
