Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Saturday, 04-Jan-2025 01:59:54 JST Garrett @undead I don't know the technical stuff, that's why I asked. I assume all technology is extremely complicated and my experience trying to learn it has confirmed that.
This is what I expected to be the true answer: The internet could not exist in the society that most* anarchists would want. There either has to be:
A) government run internet
B) corporate run internet
C) some combination of the twoTo have modern tech we will need to have at least one of those two things.
*ancaps don't count

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Friday, 03-Jan-2025 08:05:55 JST Garrett I just saw that Net Neutrality was struck down again so...yeah I'm just tired of the tech world. I'm tired of the hypocrisy of anti-Net Neutrality people. I'm tired of planned obsolescence causing me to spend more money on new things while otherwise perfectly functional hardware would still work fine. I'm tired of JavaScript frameworks making things more complicated than they need to be. I'm tired of seeing job listings that want 5 years of experience with a technology that's only 3 years old.

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Friday, 03-Jan-2025 08:05:54 JST Garrett So like, maybe dumb question but...how do we start our own internet that is outside of the control of governments or corporations? Can I hook up to the internet without going through Verizon or Comcast or AT&T?

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Friday, 03-Jan-2025 08:05:54 JST Garrett I'm not saying I don't ever want to touch computers again. I'm saying I want to be out of the tech world. I want to just be a regular computer user who doesn't have to deal with this stuff. Though a lack of Net Neutrality and planned obsolescence will always affect me anyway I guess.

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Saturday, 21-Dec-2024 02:11:38 JST Garrett @alcinnz I do remember reading that HTML-only lacks some accessibility that CSS solves, though that may have changed as browsers add more features on how we can choose to see things.

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Saturday, 21-Dec-2024 02:08:41 JST Garrett @alcinnz It's a cool website. I kind of like the idea of HTML-only...or at least as little CSS as possible. I guess CSS is important for us to not have to build everything out in tables and frames like when I first started building websites. (I still miss frames)

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2024 04:15:11 JST Garrett @alcinnz that’s basically the conclusion I’ve come to. Like who fucking cares? It hurts literally no one for me to say I’m a programmer because I poured this glass of water. Singing karaoke is a programming language and I’m gonna make some sweet software tonight.

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2024 04:09:52 JST Garrett @alcinnz if we want to err on the side of inclusivity it’s better to assume my award winning home made baked potato soup is in fact a programming language. If we say it’s not, we’re immediately disallowing everyone who creates using my FDA approved award winning home made baked potato soup from calling themselves a “programmer”. And what does that even matter anyway? Are programmers so worried about the title that they have to draw lines in the sand? Big “you’re not a gamer” vibes.

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Thursday, 19-Dec-2024 04:03:19 JST Garrett @alcinnz I don’t think it really matters, in the end, what is or isn’t. And so anyone who says something *isn’t* are being gatekeepers. Like who fucking cares. If people want to say my homemade baked potato soup is a programming language — let them believe that!

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Monday, 09-Dec-2024 12:25:50 JST Garrett @alcinnz way back in the early 2000’s when I first started learning HTML, I was taught that p doesn’t need closed, and we didn’t close it.
Ever since then, from 2006 when I graduated HS, everything I’ve seen always says to close your p tags.
I figured for safety reasons you should always close tags that can be closed. But now I’m like …what do I do

Garrett (garrett@masto.garrett.life)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Nov-2024 09:36:52 JST Garrett How do we make it easier for "everyone else," the "normies," all those "regular" folk who just want to get online, how do we reduce the friction required to get them to make their own little corners of the web? How do we make the #IndieWeb easier? How do we make the #WebRevival more convenient?

But, me, I'm ready to get to work right now.
I jumped out of bed after 6ish hours of sleep ready to get to work.
