@dansup How do you feel about the though of Starter Kit servers themselves optionally federating with each other?

I'm partly thinking about discoverability of starter kits, but also about sharing opt-out status etc, so someone doesn't feel surprised by opting out, then getting new DMs from *other* servers..

@jalefkowit @alcinnz Yeah, ORMs tend to offer up some surprises like that.. 😅

But then, so does the database itself! Who hasn't been hit with full table scans just to get a few dozen rows out of millions, due to query planner oopsies..

@alcinnz I accidentally got back into PHP a bit, after having done mostly Rust, Go and Python for a couple of years.

It's.. not really that bad? Lots of new developments in the language itself. Better performance when coupled with something like FrankenPHP & running persistently, so your whole app doesn't have to be loaded for every request.

Poking around with Laravel 11 now, and liking the opinionated solutions. For internal dashboards etc, the web part itself isn't what needs to be fast.

@eob This is very true, and, I think, inevitable.

Our computer systems would fare much better if we built them with this realization, learning from past mistakes, but also integrating well with the "legacy" foundation they rest on.

Build open, extensible and resilient systems. One day your shiny new system will *be* the legacy system, and those building on it will either curse or praise it, depending on how well it can be adapted and integrated with.

@rasmusfleischer Ja, och för att göra liknelsen lite mer exakt, så är kuverten (tillsammans med allt annat emballage) isåfall också transparenta om man använder rätt slags glasögon, så att hundförarna kan kontrollera det som hundarna reagerar på.

Självklart går glasögonen bara att köpa via en webbsida hos en godkänd leverantör, så att ingen oauktoriserad kan se vad alla andra skickar via brev & paket.. för inte kunde väl någon webbsida hackas, eller personal mutas?!
