tired of wasting money on streaming devices to serve media that's local on disk? i was too. this example of a thinkpad being turned into a "server" works well for direct play on a tv (in my case a portable 14" monitor). i don't have a remote setup for it yet and not sure i care (yet). but it plays things really well without having to struggle-bus with jellyfin interfaces poorly implemented on all platforms.

it's also serving up a password manager, syncthing backup storage, and a git server. free ups included, so long as the old battery doesn't kaboom on me.

good call on it being "absorbed" there's some that think that phonk is memphis. it's not.

phonk is okay, but each time i listen to it i end up feeling like some sad 20 something sitting at his computer watching chad memes and getting ready to drink logan paul drinks. thus i avoid it :-)
