    @ami_angelwings charlie's angels full throttle

it's not a movie so much as a collection of scenes in which things happen, any impression of a narrative is probably a result of the human tendency to find patterns in noise

a script which could not have happened to a worse group of performers

@whitequark my favorite of these was on niconico, promoted stream events, with graphic banners, advertising their start times at 25:30 on friday

    modulo, sometimes optional

@cyanautik @spiegelmama @babe being _that person_ to say don't actually open the door because for lots of jurisdictions "an open door is sufficient cause to enter"

@whitequark the part of me that feels obliged to avoid doomposting at all costs would like to point out that the lower the stakes of the community (in my experience) the _greater_ the likelihood of discussions along these lines to not progress along such a scale

@whitequark now that you mention it, yeah, it's basically the 2010s meta for doing this

however, the punishment usually sees through it these days, so in 2020+ you use vagueposting

which itself usually gets seen through, so...

(notably, the probability of someone making an honest mistake rectifying their behavior or asking what's wrong decreases as you progress along this scale)

@whitequark sarcasm can be useful (as far as talking itself continues to be useful...) in scenarios when a dark pattern or set of behaviors exists, and,

    1. this is known by the actors involved who choose not to care about them,

    2. or all claims are ignored by the actors involved (in rare circumstances these aren't just bad-faith versions of 1)

in the best possible case scenario the tone might generate a "well, what would you have us do?" from 2, but often achieves little but blowing off steam

@whitequark @mcc i was thinking more in terms of "we should take care of ourselves in case we're the best hope we have"

...but now i wonder, what would feral space cats do

@inthehands i would suggest not giving the keys to that decision, then, to the sorts of people who think a mainframe-based large language model will harvest crops for them, and have put zero effort into trying to invalidate their own assumptions

@inthehands seeking prior art might have prevented a lot of this sort of thinking

sarah taber was a very good follow when you wanted to know all the ways that agriculture (including automated agriculture) could go horribly wrong,

either due to vastly underestimating the needed scale, or underestimating the problem of How Not to Spend 90% of the Robot's Lifespan Being Repaired
(it turns out that typical field conditions are perfect for killing even "waterproof" robots)

@inthehands nevertheless, i've always maintained that the fact that a highly technological society can be built upon the labor of a small number of human beings shows that, somehow, society can probably figure out how to pay them with all that automation,

@carnage4life the value of substantial wealth partially lies in the fact that it's not deployed, but threatens to be at any time,

so, i consider this the funniest possible outcome, thanks

@AnarchoNinaWrites i like watching the same group of people talk about both overpopulation and underpopulation depending on who the audience is

(this is a joke. i do not in fact like watching this. but you have to find dark humor where you can sometimes)
