Dear Brain,
I do not need that IBM Selectric; there is no reason for me to acquire it. I have no use for it. I don't care how many type balls it has. Yes it's cool. But again, I do not need it.

@waitworry @_L1vY_ When the Japanese trading delegate asked them what they wanted; they had no idea.
These are not serious people; they partied their way through their formative years being supported by and surrounded by an implicit white supremacy that always put them in their best light.
They have no concept of what it is to negotiate with a hostile peer.
They are a laughingstock on the international stage.
@_L1vY_ And Hollywood has been a leader in offshoring; even in the 1990's most animation was done in Japan or Korea. This is a kick in the nuts to Hollywood studios either way.
@neotoy I figure you could get a pretty good denial of service on low earth orbit for a budget of less than $5 Million USD.
A soda can's worth of beach sand tossed into orbit with a sling-a-tron style launcher is more than sufficient to start the process.
To get super effective; launch westward; you'll need more delta-vee and a beefier launcher but the differential delta-vee
A couple of dozen sand grains at a differential of more than 20km/s is going to put out enough joules to disable and fragment most of the mini-sats employed by the constellation operators.
A fun game to play with mental health professionals is to tell them that you're deeply worried that you're hallucinating heavily.
And when they ask why: "I'm concerned that I'm imagining this scenario where a second-rate TV star is pretending to be president and ruling by decree; it's absolutely implausible and makes me question my reality."
Being suddenly concerned about the fate of the U Bein bridge and the people of the surrounding area wasn't on my agenda tonight' but they just got a 7.7 quake.

@skinnylatte I was riding a section of the old Oregon Electric Railroad right of way this afternoon.
(photo un momento)
@skinnylatte apparently the mastodon android client has a bug that prevents adding alt text to photos and voids the post. It looks like the tap is propagating to the second layer so you click the back arrow to add the alt text and the message is also passed to the next screen where the X close action is.
AFAICT this only happens during replies.
So, I read the new Paul Graham essay and I need to go wash my hands; and possibly lavage my brain with strong drink.
Ick.
@tofugolem
Tell us how you really feel Claude.
Damn, but I wish Democrats had that kind of energy.
Carry a sharpie so you can blot out the QR codes on anti-vaxx propaganda.

Another day, another leftist journalist being separated from their mainstream media gig and starting their own thing __on Substack__.
What is the appeal of going to a platform with problematic owners who will sell you out to Elon & the Felon ?
Is it money? Hassle? It's certainly not design.
I think we're at the point where pictures of a certain individual throwing a Nazi salute are counterproductive.
Before republishing such an image ask yourself if you are normalizing the behavior it represents.
@paninid it's usually to let the soil regenerate. Often, you grow a cover crop which is plowed under before you plant another field crop.
@susankayequinn @paninid @mastodonmigration spike strips on up to forklifts and signal interception.
Disabling a robot car gone rogue is not the hard problem; holding the people who caused it to be built and intentionally programmed it to violate safety regulations is.
Because in our society at present; wealth is the grand exemption from responsibility.
@jwz @cstross
If you read several inflammatory articles about how people who are doing a thing you like have "too much" money in reserve and are not spending it.
Consider what motivates such an article and whether you are target of an attempt to create a negative view of an organization that you currently have a positive view of.
@ekis @tofugolem
He washes them.
Seeing the richest man on earth going off on homeless people is just disgusting.
My brother in Christ you could house every homeless person in America with a fraction of the resources you command. You could even hire enough rehab and mental health practitioners to start on healing them.
And yet you choose to feed bigotry and hate for the least able among us and make the system crueller and less functional than it would have been before you stuck your oar in.
Best hope that there is no justice in this world rocketboy; because if there is, you are overdue for being on the receiving end of karma.
@ai6yr suspended by the city or by the platforms?
This is a pretty strong argument for cities to run their own messaging infrastructure. Especially when people are actively using disasters as opportunities to market scams or disinformation.
