     "Trump says movies produced outside the U.S. are a national security threat. So he’s imposing a 100% tariff on all movies that are “produced in foreign lands.'

     On its face, this is about getting more movies produced in the U.S., but obviously this is also a mechanism you'd use to stop foreign sources of information from getting into your country."

     "If Trump is serious about tariffs on movies, it's a very dangerous escalation. Tariffs have not traditionally been applied to services, and the United States is a massive net exporter of services. We would be extremely vulnerable to any service-based retaliation."

     @_L1vY_ And Hollywood has been a leader in offshoring; even in the 1990's most animation was done in Japan or Korea. This is a kick in the nuts to Hollywood studios either way.

     @laprice @_L1vY_ yeah that has been my analysis of Trump is his whole reputation as this awesome deal maker was just based on the fact that when he was in NYC he had all the money and everyone else wanted his money so it was incredibly easy for him to make deals because he had all the leverage

     when he is in a situation where he doesn't actually have leverage all he can do is lash out

     @waitworry @_L1vY_ When the Japanese trading delegate asked them what they wanted; they had no idea.

     These are not serious people; they partied their way through their formative years being supported by and surrounded by an implicit white supremacy that always put them in their best light.

     They have no concept of what it is to negotiate with a hostile peer.

     They are a laughingstock on the international stage.
