here's something i can do today for a few people. i have a prime membership, so i can get a lot of things shipped for free. could you use a big box of low-effort instant rice? you add equal parts rice and water, bring it to a boil, then cover and turn it off. it takes 5 minutes but it doesn't go bad or overcook if you don't get back to it right away. a 72-ounce box has over 7,000 calories worth of rice. i'd be happy to buy and send this to you today.
hi! white cis men and women in the u.s., please find and send money to Black and indigenous people and local organizations that serve them, today if you can. i'd love to fill this bag with people's receipts. a lot of you have money to spare, and it would be both good and symbolically meaningful to send that money today. browse your timeline, check posts in the #/mutualAid tag, find your local orgs like TransTexas.org or Brave Space Alliance. reply or DM with receipts.
@HauntedOwlbear i just can't think of literally any way in which it would mean anything in legal terms. i wouldn't even call it caution since the language doesn't do anything. it's like homeopathic caution
i have complicated feelings about people who attempt to ban "minors" from their social media. in practical terms this does nothing, and seems to dehumanize, you know, human children. they're out there using the internet anyway. if you're correctly marking your adult content, it's not different from the age gate on any other type of website. this is just my opinion. let people of all ages safely use the internet without signposting that you hate them
hi! it's dies solis. today i'm thinking about passion, authenticity, and taking time with things. a lot of people online treat passing ideas like an assembly line where their job is to put an unfunny stamp on everything that passes, and that's all they have to do. that's really shallow and sad.
many things aren't funny, or they're only funny in a specific way that needs some thought. that's good, not bad. i also see so many people apologize online for expressing any vulnerable truth or feeling. please, please, stop hanging out with anyone who makes you feel that way. caring is good.
i don't mean caring about like Issues. i mean just caring how other people are really feeling. wanting to hear the truth from people you care about. i hate that anyone thinks it's unacceptable to just make a post about how they feel shitty and could use some help or support. that sucks so bad!!!
the Corn Telethon in support of sex worker organizations is live now! right now some pretty ladies are talking about being adult performers. they have all kinds of things and guests planned.
For those outside the U.S. and U.K., is it a huge trope in your location's or language's storytelling that parents will cover up their children's (of any age) crimes, including murder? This is such a strange moral issue that I think about a lot. I'm curious if it's more universal, please boost for more reach.
i'm finishing a book that's turned from just bad to one of the most ableist things i've read from the last 10 years, so i'm just going to bitch about it openly to shine some light on these harmful tropes and myths. the book is "don't believe it" by charlie donlea, a chicago-area author apparently
I see a lot of fellow white users who get embroiled in all this drama every day and the way they talk has such powerful Main Character Syndrome energy. Like keeping folders full of posts about themselves and expecting everyone to know who they are. Wild shit!
To me, it's telling that while there are almost countless queer users on here, there are vanishingly few active Black users and they keep leaving. That is the culture. Disproportionately blaming anything on so few people is nonsensical and seems racist. If you do that and sincerely believe you aren't being racist, I'd suggest doing your blame math again with the right proportions in place.
Seeing some wild stuff on here today. If you genuinely think most of the fediverse's very few Black users are transphobic harassers, despite many of the main characters themselves being trans and receiving transphobic AND anti-Black harassment on here -- to me that sounds like something I would really look inward about before suggesting everyone just block and report Black users. Like the last week unfolded because someone picked a weird fight with DAIR over nothing. An anti-AI thinktank.
@are0h jesus, this is chilling. I feel surprised by the college whites' full denial of poverty and jobs as critical issues, but my nonwhite bf does not and I'm sure he's right
it's dies veneris and i have a MIGRAINE but also need to work and #amwriting. i got 810 words this morning then took an emergency nap. are you working today? what's the good word?
she/her. Just some white lady. Writer, curious person, artist, bad coder, avid reader, extremely eclectic interests. Science and curiosity journalist. Co-organizer of Queer Games Bundle. I love books, #whoNamedIt, math, astrology for fun (#aetaDays), mythologies, space, animals, cooking, and helping with things because I'm a big dork. Please don't reply-guy me. Assume I know things unless I ask. I'll make it weird.
