As I understand it, at its current size, mastodon.social is the largest server.

Current rate of growth of Mastodon, but now it's all on social. Seems like those are big numbers to stay on top of.

Can they keep up with the moderation? They seem to be struggling now, but maybe that's just my perception.

If you tell me, "PJ they'll manage fine." Then I'll believe you. You're far better informed than me but honestly that seems like it's not part of the plan.

Do you feel mastodon.social is doing a good job with moderation?

Will adding a constant stream of people help this?

In the UK there's the concept of "parliamentary privilege". When an elected politician is speaking in a house of government, their speech is protected such that they can't be sued.

Downside you'd see more use of hate speech in government. Upside, politicians would be able to call out bad actors like companies which enables the press to report on the speech (except you know, the billionaires own them too ).

We've gone from 100% of people die (+4C, 2003) to 10% die (+2C, 2023), but I kinda feel that's not getting the job done.

How about we go for target zero? No acceptable losses.

I do like the idea and want to help people move.

But it seems like 100,000,000 is a lot of people. That's ~10% of the 1,300,000,000 Twitter accounts.

Good moderation is supposed to be impossible over 1000 people, I read.

So we'd need about 10,000 new servers. Or 1,000 ~10k people servers. A thousand mastodon social servers. A lot of moderation and new moderators.

It would change the feel of the place for sure and timescale feels important too.

I feel this image is very relevant to my and possibly your experiences. Finding servers with mods you trust and can identify is very important and the .ie mods have been amazing.

I'm just going to go ahead and block them because I can spot a concern troll at over 50,000 metres.

I post descriptions on my memes because the idea of people not getting my joke makes me sad.

Oh, and to answer the point. I'll post in the language of my audience. And usually that's English.
