@BeAware @Peternimmo @FediTips We have bridges to Nostr now? 😬
“What about that shadowy place?”
“That's beyond our borders. You must never go there, Simba”

@kyonshi @beastman @BeAware It’s the first time I’ve heard about it, but it does make sense. Possibly just not widely known. Or I could just be out of the loop 🙂
@kyonshi @beastman @BeAware Hah, yeah I’m get that too now. Maybe they had a point.
Hah, I wanted to share this article from It's FOSS News on here but don't want to cause the issue they describe in it, so I won't link to it directly.
They only mention #Mastodon in this article, but would this not be a wider issue on most #fediverse platforms?
Here's the link broken up:
https:// news.itsfoss .com/mastodon-link-problem/
Trying out a self-hosted #Akkomane instance using #SpaceHost and think I’ve found the first missing feature coming from #Mastodon: I’m not able to hide posts from accounts I put into lists from my home feed.
I use this quite a bit for creating news lists and those accounts can be pretty chatty so I don’t want it all over my home feed. Mastodon is able to do this, so I assume this is a limitation of Akkoma.
@BeAware That’s where I store mine, but if you try to use any web based clients they’re like “No! Don’t give us your private key! You can, but we don’t recommend it!” But the alternatives are clumsy and not user friendly.
@BeAware Personally I don’t mind it being loosely moderated, as I think that’s the biggest draw for some people. I don’t mind putting in the work to mute the accounts I don’t care to see stuff from, but I know that’s likely not what most people would want to do.
It just seems so disorganized at this stage without proper onboarding documentation on what you should know on recommended ways to keep your private key secure. I’d like to be able to use a mobile app or something to be able to store my private key and approve or reject logins, but the only thing I’ve been able to find to do that now are browser extensions. And I don’t really want to install that on my work PC.
Maybe it’s just a limitation of the technology, but it’s not a good user experience at all if you’re trying to keep your account secure as possible.
Also, the mobile and web apps are nowhere near as polished as Mastodon. But maybe that’ll improve with time.
Trying to dabble in #Nostr again to get a better understanding of it. I do like the fact that your identity remains the same wherever you interact, but man, if people thought #Mastodon and #ActivityPub was confusing, it's got nothing on Nostr. I'm in IT and understand public/private key pairs and it's still not simple when getting started to me. Unless there's some way they figure out how to drastically ease the onboarding process, I just don't ever see it being adopted by many people.
@atomicpoet Are jalapeños common in Malaysian dishes? I wouldn’t have thought so.
I know there's a lot of people on the fediverse that feel very differently, but I'm excited about #Threads finally testing #fediverse integration with a public beta. The amount of people I've seen on Threads asking what the fediverse is since this was announced is staggering. If nothing else, I think this will help bring the wider fediverse more into the mainstream.
