Trying to dabble in #Nostr again to get a better understanding of it. I do like the fact that your identity remains the same wherever you interact, but man, if people thought #Mastodon and #ActivityPub was confusing, it's got nothing on Nostr. I'm in IT and understand public/private key pairs and it's still not simple when getting started to me. Unless there's some way they figure out how to drastically ease the onboarding process, I just don't ever see it being adopted by many people.

I don’t mind putting in the work to mute the accounts I don’t care to see stuff from, but I know that’s likely not what most people would want to do.
It just seems so disorganized at this stage without proper onboarding documentation on what you should know on recommended ways to keep your private key secure. I’d like to be able to use a mobile app or something to be able to store my private key and approve or reject logins, but the only thing I’ve been able to find to do that now are browser extensions. And I don’t really want to install that on my work PC.
Maybe it’s just a limitation of the technology, but it’s not a good user experience at all if you’re trying to keep your account secure as possible.
Also, the mobile and web apps are nowhere near as polished as Mastodon. But maybe that’ll improve with time.

Don’t give us your private key! You can, but we don’t recommend it!” But the alternatives are clumsy and not user friendly.
