Hmm... I was looking into Paranoia again on the off-chance I might play it again soon... and realized that what I thought was slightly outdated (the paranoia about communist traitors without even the slightest understanding of what communism is) is eerily prescient of current right-wing talking points.
Doesn't help that the disturbing belief in the infallibility of the obviously deranged Computer, the jack booted security, the clueless technologists... all feel familiar.
so it turns out Teslas on autopilot will disengage the autopilot when a crash is imminent so the statistics can show "autopilot was not engaged at the time of accident"
@cykonot@servelan I dunno, more like "if I ever had a choice I'd like to do it with you"
Now I don't know the situation at hand, but I know stupid and horny teenage boys. It just sounds like one of those stupid things they say because they can't even understand how it could be misinterpreted. Teenagers are DUMB, even if they aren't malicious.
On the other hand the guy might just have been an evil little shitnugget, so what do I know?
@kagan@cykonot@servelan I'm just, you know, acting from my own experience of saying and doing stuff I thought was normal or even nice, and having it interpreted in the worst possible way.
I think a lot of people had that experience as teenagers, you know, that stuff you said where even years later you think back and get embarrassed about it?
I just don't wanna jump on the outrage train and call for a kid to be expelled if there's a chance that it might have been just stupidity.
This morning on the way to school my son and me watched workers take down the giant beer advertisement that had been gracing the next corner for the last few months. Right now I noticed they replaced it with advertisements for concerts in the local arena. For Dream Theater and Sum 41.
My son got really into Land of the Lost (1974) despite it's atrocious greenscreen effects. At least the claymation is actually decent. Funnily enough the series shapes up to be much more well-written than I remember from my childhood. I think the German dub I watched it with might have had something to do with that.
I wonder how much it shaped #ttrpg as a hobby, because it came out at exactly the right time, and it has all the proper tropes of a weird scifi-fantasy #dnd game.
