came across some illustrations of Pentonville Prison (a "model prison" for the British Empire) from the time of it's opening, which promised a more modern style of imprisonment.

Turns out that involved seperating prisoners from each other so thoroughly they spent 23 hours a day in solitary and had to wear masks if they ever went anywhere else. Even the prison chapel was designed to isolate them.

No surprise (to us that is) mental breakdowns and illnesses skyrocketed.

Everybody's always on how dystopian fiction now has to be moved to current affairs, but they always forget that the whole section on Law now has found a spot in Fantasy.

the current Kamen Rider series is all about dreams, and the protagonist's dreams are interfacing with reality.

Amusingly the first time his dream superior contacts him in reality he can't understand a word, because while his dream self understands and speaks in (gratuitous) English, his real self... doesn't.

Also, the series is called Kamen Rider Zeztz, and it took me a while to realize that it's punning on zzz (like the onomatopoeia for sleeping)

Hmm... I was looking into Paranoia again on the off-chance I might play it again soon... and realized that what I thought was slightly outdated (the paranoia about communist traitors without even the slightest understanding of what communism is) is eerily prescient of current right-wing talking points.

Doesn't help that the disturbing belief in the infallibility of the obviously deranged Computer, the jack booted security, the clueless technologists... all feel familiar.
