@emanuele @louis Are you certain this includes the grabbing of search queries?

Unattributed ๐ค โ (unatributed@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 11-Aug-2024 16:57:01 JST Unattributed ๐ค โ @emanuele @louis I do noit have any additional information - nor do I have the ability at this time to audit audit the code. (I posted a question if anyone has independently audited the code.)
Point is: I am not certain that gathering search information is necessarily part of their telemetry codce... So I wouldn't make the assumption that the telemetry disabling option covers this until it is independently verified.

When things that are this controversial come to light I tend to look for independent verification, and in this case specific implementation details.
It's only through complete fact based information that we (the general public) can be completely informed. I prefer this over taking actions based on incomplete information.

What if you just asked for the user ID, then have an API that broadcasts to all registered servers, if one of them acknowledges having the ID redirect to that server for password prompt.
Could also shortcut this by seeing a cookie with the url of the server the use is registered on as well.

What's going to stop a man in the middle style attack and allow some to grab email / password pairs? -

And media corporations are using copyright to keep information from people, using it to keep information from passing to the public domain where it would benefit everyone.

Hopefully you find the people that fit with your vision and work well together. (And the more talented they are the better.)

Unattributed ๐ค โ (unatributed@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 04-Jan-2023 00:30:54 JST Unattributed ๐ค โ @Gargron Question: what happens if someone quote posts a post that from an instance that has been banned on my instance?
Is this going to become a method that people use for #fediblock evasion?
What about quoted posts of people I've muted / blocked?
I think this is a much more difficult feature to implement in a large scale federated environment.

Unattributed ๐ค โ (unatributed@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 03-Jan-2023 15:52:37 JST Unattributed ๐ค โ @Gargron I missed it when I first joined back in 2019, but now I get the resistance.
I've been saying for a while now that it's important to think about how the features of an application influence the use of the application.
Quote posts are definitely at this category. I believe they have (unintentionally) promoted a less healthy environment that leads to dog-piling and brigading, and detract from direct conversation.
I feel this would have a seriously negative impact on Mastodon.

Unattributed ๐ค โ (unatributed@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 23-Nov-2022 00:00:57 JST Unattributed ๐ค โ @Gargron Wouldn't surprise me to see another 1-2M users join before the end of the year.
But, another number that is not getting as much attention: the number of posts per month. This has jumped from 471M in Sept. to 496M today, and likely to reach 500M by month's end,
Which, to me at least, is a strong indicator that people aren't just creating accounts, they are sticking around.

Unattributed ๐ค โ (unatributed@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 12-Nov-2022 22:52:34 JST Unattributed ๐ค โ @Gargron have you counted the number of new instances? My rough approximation from looking at a couple of start sites is around 1200-1500. That's the beauty of Mastodon/Fediverse scaling to me... It's not just one big monolith, there is horizontal scaling and more people / orgs investing in the whole network.
