Feeling really depressed and anxious about my job and career today. Then I watched @Viss 's talk from Sec-T: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2LAgEQa6wo

Still depressed/anxious, but now with some "fuck it!" in there. 🤦

@fanta Hey is that Porting UNIX Applications by Martin Brown? 👍

@perpetuum_mobile @ryanc @catsalad @cR0w @kajer The +++ and a short pause was sort of an interrupt for the modem to expect a command sequence, IIRC.

@Viss @catsalad I use base64 encryption

@babe Frank supervised when I filled up his food bin.

A quick reminder:

@MeanwhileinCanada I thought we didn’t allow convicted felons to cross the border?

Hahaha I just saw someone call ChatGPT “Grand Theft Autocorrect” 😆

@chrisod @ben @redcrew @mattl hopefully this is helpful? I’ve been collecting remote work companies- https://taffer.ca/posts/2025/remote/

Now hosted in a Canadian 🇨🇦 repo (formerly 🇪🇺): https://worktree.ca/taffer/canadian-alternatives

My list of Canadian alternatives to various big tech Internet services. Tired of having your data (and money) flow to a rogue state? Maybe these can help.

Updates/suggestions welcome!

@mattl did I already send a link to this? https://taffer.ca/posts/2025/remote/

I couldn't find an existing list of Canadian alternatives to American Internet services, so I've started one:

Please spread far and wide, and let me know if you have any updates for the page!

Going to try out @MetaText today, I'm getting sick of @IceCubesApp forgetting where I am in the timeline and having to scroll down forever to find it myself.

Hey @IceCubesApp ; one thing that's absolutely awful when posting is adding tags; iOS' keyboard stashes the `#` key behind two taps which annoys me every time.

I don't have any good suggestions for how to make this better. A (#) widget in the toot UI with a pop-up auto-complete text field?

Going to use @Vivaldi this weekend, see how it goes. Need to figure out what I want to do with these extra bits (the Panel) and maybe try out the email account support again.

With the news that Google is going to "supercharge" Maps with "AI" (and the poor results I've had with Apple Maps), I finally checked out OpenStreetMap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/

OMG THIS IS AMAZING. So much more useful detail! Incredible! Going to dig up an app for my phone and use this for a while to see how it compares to the ad- and AI-ridden nonsense.
