@altruios @dalias @woe2you @tante well if the author attributes their sources and cites properly, we call it academic publishing.
Can an LLM do that, reliably? Can it be held accountable for academic misconduct?

@koen_hufkens @pluralistic @academicchatter I think doing a PhD is in a class of shit of its own. Even in places where candidates are officially employed, the idea that "it's a training" and therefore [insert abuse] is prevalent.
@volkris @QasimRashid so the students in wherever don't pay any tax?
@dalias @anarchic_teapot @HarriettMB @ChrisMayLA6 I think there are notable exceptions where competent CEOs also happen to be really good engineers. Dr. Lisa Su, as an example.
@dalias @pixx @aud @paninid @hipsterelectron @Techronic9876 that reminds me of when a train conductor on a Thalys train to Brussels chewed me up about having an incorrect ticket and that it's especially bad because it's a "private train". As if riding without a valid ticket on SNCF would somehow be morally OK in comparison.
Edit: just checked the wiki: Thalys is long gone, both SNCF and I are still here. Ha!
@adama @aral that's why I'm a bassist, when I pull my plug out, nobody notices anyway...
