Is there an interface server to connect #bluesky and #mastodon instances?
Can there ever be? (If there is not any currently)

@eff how is removing a company’s app have anything to do with free speech…
Are you in turn therefore arguing the company compelled to keep that app running indefinitely?
Maybe we should treat social media like a utility…
But that’s now how any of this works currently.
Click bait take you have.
@tyami @woe2you @dalias @tante 100% agree google ai is useless and harmful. And mostly waste.
A distinction might be made for locally run models… the use cases differ drastically than what google is pushing (search optimization).
As well as power requirements/ scale being more reasonable.
Again: fuck capitalism. AI is an accelerant. But the direction things are going is due to capitalism, not AI itself.
@tyami @dalias @woe2you @tante and I am not a lawyer… but can you not do that legally already? Same as recording a tv show to a vcr or football game… didn’t we settle this in the 70’s that recording what’s on your tv to disc is perfectly legal?!?!
@tyami @dalias @woe2you @tante so…
Copyright is a broken system that asymmetrically benefits publishers, corporations, and the bourgeoisie over the starving artist that it is seemingly for.
I’m copyleft, the ownership of data isn’t intrinsically in that data: that’s a human property we ascribe over it. Data is data, everyone should have access to the same data.
But your argument is not very strong, as the analogy is not convincing.
@JamesWidman @dalias @woe2you @tante capitalistic entities are doing that using a tool that can be leveraged for much better.
Google flooding search, advertising getting more eyeballs. Magazines looking for subscriptions. The exception is educational systems, which however are subject to the same capitalistic survival needs… competition will look for any edge.
Capitalism is the problem. AI is a tool… a hammer doesn’t wack a nail by itself.
@JamesWidman @dalias @woe2you @tante yes the hammer can hit your hand
Off the top of my head
LLM’s:
1) honeytraps for scammers (who will be using whatever tech regardless of ethics).
2) natural language to commands (ie, home automation that actually works).
3) reducing incidences of lone wolf attacks (via companionship which could otherwise be straining for another human to have).
4) honeytrap for pedos.
5) DnD/games.
There are better ideas than these.
@dalias @woe2you @tante how do LLM honeytraps increase the attackers effectiveness as you claim? That makes zero sense: so if you could explain clearly…
@puppygirlhornypost2 @dalias @tante @woe2you voice detection is different than the (seemingly) semantic understanding of unexpected keywords given context clues. You can talk in regulate diction… have it transcribed accurately… congratulations: you’ve detected a voice!!!
turning that into a command proved tricky… an LLM (at that step) however, seems to be what works better than anything we’ve seen…
@dalias @woe2you @tante I seem ignorant here on what disadvantage there would be.
wouldn’t an LLM be a potentially more effective (scalable too) honeytrap than current honeytraps? I know an attacker has an advantage in the general case: so why not supe up the honeypots?
Using an LLM cost next to pennies. Training it is where the energy use happens). This seems like a really good idea to use them as honeypots for scammers…
@woe2you @dalias @tante in addition, LLM’s can pretend to be old people to waste time of scammers… that’s another solid use case.
Railing against capitalism* didn’t see that in the marketing brochure /s
But really? What have I said that would indicate I’m only consuming marketing material?
@dalias @woe2you @tante that is inaccurate.
There are other motives other than profit to making AI. LLM’s are a reasonable attempt: they would have been made regardless of capitalism.
Capitalism is the problem. And AI, while an accelerant to capitalism… would be an accelerant regardless of political systems deployed…
If we had a leftist government: AI development would be optimized for citizens first as a public open source inspectable utility…
@dalias @woe2you @tante I would love to be wrong about something I am angry about or hate. I try to make that happen as often as possible. I don’t see challenging discourse as disrespectful or an asshole move. Everyone has an opinion. Sharing is how we learn.
I really do think a lot of anger is misdirected at AI/LLMs when it would be more accurate to say that capitalism as a system is the thing at fault here.
Ai is just the easy thing to point towards.
The difference between a human reading a website and writing an article ‘inspired by’ what they’ve read And an LLM consuming and outputting content the same way is we recognize that an LLM is a tool and can do the same thing faster.
Reading is training. Reading isn’t copying. Output is the issue: not input. It’s worrisome to see so many not grasp this.
Looking/copying isnt stealing. It just isn’t. No one lost their website.
@tante I have mixed feelings.
Crawlers should respect robots.txt….
At the same time: there is clearly an emotionally based bias happening with LLM’s.
I feel weird about the idea of actively sabotaging. Considering it is only towards bad actors… and considering maybe robots.txt often are too restrictive in my opinion… the gray areas overlap a bit.
Why should we want to actively sabatoge AI dev? Wouldn’t that lead to possible catastrophic results? Who benefits from dumber ai?
@mekkaokereke @DoesntExist @jcrabapple @Tarah @corycarson there is also this:
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&geo=US&q=Who%20can%20see%20my%20vote&hl=en
Which shows a growing concern jumping heavily around 2020…
The phrase about the husband might be manufactured: but the sentiment may be organic.
@mekkaokereke @DoesntExist @jcrabapple @Tarah @corycarson I wonder: the trend you show only goes back to Oct of 2023… which (coincidently 0_o ) doesn’t have an election… what’s the trend of that phrase (or paraphrases) over the last 16 years? That would be a much more convincing graph… what you showed was hardly convincing at all.
If you’re going to use data to make your point: use the correct data.
At a mall…
70% of the stores are closed.
I go to another mall. Same story.
Are we in a recession?
#politics #finance #bubble #recession #mall
Or are malls just: dying a hardcore death?
Is it like this everywhere? In SoCal I figured at least one mall is okay.
#outlaw is a concept we maybe need to bring back. The idea is not that bad people were all outlaws… an outlaw is someone to be treated outside of the law, that any action taken against them was legal as the law no longer protected them.
We should outlaw nazism: rendering it perfectly legal to punch a nazi!
#punchanazi
#makenazisdeadagain
#makenazisoutlaws
#politics
#leftist #progressive
#Antinazism #antifascist #antifascism
Nazism deserves to be outlawed: it is toxic to the law.
