@GhostOnTheHalfShell@pluralistic Canada can get goods elsewhere, and they could simply stop sending fossil fuels and a few other necessities to the USA for [say] a month. Might cause some short term pain for Canada, but letting #FeloniousTrump steam roll over them and inflict Tarriffs if they don’t accede to his bullying would be a big mistake; something that will destroy Canada in pretty short order.
@grayface_ghost As a cis woman, I fear greatly for my trans friends and associates. My eldest’s partner is trans, and they both live in London. I always hope they are safe and well. I would add that as a woman living protectively is something most women do; and the few that have never been assaulted or propositioned or had someone put unwanted hands on them are very fortunate indeed. We learned to carry our keys threaded through our fingers, to keep back from cars asking for directions, how to walk without looking fearful or looking too obvious either…. And more. A great many of us know your fear, and are your friends. :purple_heart_sparkle:
@fkamiah17 Distraction here - beige.party have tons of mastodon emojis in various groups. Since you often share quotes from Moomin, I thought you might like a screenshot of the Moomin collection. And I know it will not distract you from book purchases and the other pleasures lined up for today.
@GottaLaff Engagement or capitulation to #FeloniousTrump won’t save those who do so. It simply shows him who is a pushover for more intimidation, and who can be casually dismissed when they hesitate to do something in future. Anyone who has ever been the subject of bullies as a child or teenager is very well aware of this.
@GottaLaff It’s absolutely hilarious and all over media in the UK and Ireland already. Farage [🐸] had a softball interview with Laura Kuenssberg of the BBC this morning, and got away with all kinds of lies and nonsense. His bubble is well burst this afternoon. I loathe Musk as much as I loathe 🐸, because he knows nothing about politics anywhere - and he had recently offered $100 million to ReformUK Ltd [🐸 political party, and the only one that is a Limited Company]. I don’t think the money will be forthcoming. The reason Musk has done this is because he wants convicted and currently incarcerated racist, and all round bad boy Stephen Yaxley-Lennon/Tommy Robinson out of jail and favours him. Here’s a link to the POS that Musk favours - it’s a long read. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Robinson
Musk adding surgery and gynaecology to his skillset now? Such a display of ignorance is difficult to understand, never mind define…. How is a person of such stunning stupidity the wealthiest person on the planet? https://hear-me.social/@nek/113765455308294642
@ChrisMayLA6 I fear this Labour government under Starmer is too close to the USA with Trump as POTUS, and will cause irreparable harm to the UK [and surrounding countries]. That Farage is also platforming Trump and offered a lot of money by Musk isn’t helping. I think Starmer is hoping some of this largesse will come Labour [his] way. Nothing is suggesting to me that Starmer’s Labour are governing for the good of the country; and everything is suggesting they are governing to line their own pockets. Trump and his billionaires won’t care - they see an easy mark to gain more wealth, and more control.
@glynmoody Other countries need to increase vaccinations for their citizens, and as disease levels rise in the USA, those other countries need to insist on vaccination evidence for all USA residents coming in even for a short trip. If that can’t be provided, then border restrictions may be necessary. USA is very keen to have borders keeping people out of the USA - other places who do not want a surge in preventable disease must be prepared to return the favour asap.
This is the most fantastic news for Northern Ireland, for Co Antrim, and for the fabulous campaigners who have fought for years against Gas Caverns in the highly protected marine environment off Islandmagee. No gas caverns in Islandmagee. #DAERA#DUP and Sammy Wilson MP can go fvck themselves. #NIPoliticshttps://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0mvx12m30do
@aral@murchadhfinn Hopefully Irish and EU law would ensure protection and equality for trans people: reunification should remove the yoke of British occupation from the six counties forever. #think32
@bougiewonderland@tek If you don’t want Kiwifarms and TERFs trolling and gathering information and harassing people, it’s most definitely something to worry about. I think people who really want a BlueSky account should have it entirely separate from here in the interests of the safety of themselves and their friends. Once someone comes for a minority we should all protect that minority. We are stronger together - a kind of herd immunity if you will.
@ChrisMayLA6 Bridging with BlueSky is dangerous, as they haven’t got nearly enough moderation over there, and the worst people from X are now installed. It seems the awful TERF crew that is KiwiFarms and their main proponent [Jesse …..] is there, and BlueSky have not taken action to shut that down, despite many thousands of complaints. IMO, if someone wants an account with Bluesky they should keep it separate from their Mastodon account, to protect our integrity here. No Bridge is the best bridge.
Wes Streeting is a slimy, deceptive, individual who will ignore the consequences of his cruelty. How many suicides? How many mental health crises are acceptable to Wes? I know how you feel because I’m gay. Vs I can’t pretend to know how you feel being trans. He cannot both sides this - see it in the screenshot below. If he truly cared for young people he would ensure there was a good replacement scheme in place BEFORE he pulled every hope and every appropriate medication and every support away from young people. As for Cass and that report - may she have nightmares forever as she sleeps on her infamy and her pile of TERF gold. #TransRightsAreHumanRights#ProChoice#BodilyAutonomy
I guarantee not a single one will be arrested and charged or given five years in jail for impeding traffic, damaging the commercial interests of London, or causing pollution. Will they have paid their congestion charges coming into London? Will they be dipped for Red Diesel? Will their licences be checked? Will any reporter find out which multi-millionaire is shouting loudest here? Will any reporter find out how many acres each of these farmers owns? Will any reporter find out who has simply invested in land to avoid paying their due share of taxes? Will any reporter remind them farmers have had fifty years without paying IHT, and that they used to pay IHT until Thatcher gave them a break? Will any reporter ask who is an agent for a foreign corporate and wouldn’t;t be paying tax here anyway? A lot of UK land is not owned by people who live and pay taxes in the UK. Will Farage, Badenoch and others who supported Brexit be cheering these farmers on? #PayYourTaxes#MakePollutersPay
@grayface_ghost I do wish mastodon wasn’t federating with threads or BlueSky. Too risky. We have enough going on, dealing with the hacking attempts, and the spillover of Xitter’s worst.
@ChrisMayLA6 They are removing their photos from sites and literature that the public can access also. I think it’s a little late, and such actions demonstrate how utterly out of touch with reality they are. Part of me is pleased they are terrified (which I wish I wasn’t). Part of me wonders if those behind Project 2025 are beginning to realise they will all be at risk of assassination if they continue to treat the public in this contemptuous way.
