    :alert: :alert: :alert: :alert: :alert: :alert: :alert:
    Someone I was mutuals with, and who shall remain nameless for now, has posted my bio over on BlueSky and they never asked me if this was OK. I’m not on Bluesky and have no intention of ever being there.
    As a result I have removed my photo - I will replace it with something else in due course; and I have changed my settings here.
    I was badly doxxed and stalked when I was on Twitter, and I never want to go through the hell I went though back there - ever again.
    It seems that not only have they posted my bio over there, but done it in such a way that my entire timeline appears over there.
    I’m shocked, feel a bit sick, and I’m very upset/angry about this.

    UPDATE

    I’ve had no response from my [now] former mutual. I have blocked him.
    In these screenshots are the DM I sent him, and his bio. I note in his bio it does not mention that he uses BlueSky or that he bridges there.
    So, if anyone wants to report him to their moderators; or to block him for their own privacy & protection, now you know who it is.
    I’m surprised also because he’s in Denmark, and should know about consent, privacy, and data protection.

      @HarriettMB To clarify from my understanding of what is being described here, Randahl mentioned you in his Mastodon post. BridgyFed, the fediverse/Bluesky bridge, copied that post to Bluesky. Since your own account is not opted-in to bridging, the mention in the post was interpreted by Bluesky as a web link, for which it generated a preview card. The preview card is based on public information provided by Mastodon. There is clearly a clash of expectations here but no malice.

      @Gargron @HarriettMB Perhaps Mastodon shouldn't generate cringe preview cards for account profile links, but instead use the instance graphic & text that makes it clear it's an account link. This seems like a basic safety confidence UX issue.

      What a mess, might be best to disconnect from bridgyfed just in case.

      @dalias @HarriettMB If you put an Instagram profile in a Discord message, it will show you the name, bio, and the profile picture in the preview. Same for Twitter/X, Bluesky, Threads, YouTube, Tumblr, Wordpress, and countless others. If we did anything else, it would be quickly reported as a bug and people would be frustrated, because this is your public profile and you customize it to what you want it to be.

      @Gargron @HarriettMB To most normal folks that's super cringe, not something to copy. If you think ppl trying to be celebrities want it, why not make it something you can configure for your account, how it should look in preview cards.

      @Gargron @HarriettMB Have they used a third-party client for Bluesky? I cannot reproduce this behavior with my bridged posts. Neither on https://bsky.app (Safari on iOS) nor with the official iOS app. Mentions are just links to an external website (i.e. public profile) without any preview card or additional information.

      @Gargron

      Very important and very clear explanation. With this, the technical issue became clear right now as well. Thanks so much‼️‼️‼️
