Shouts rise up throughout the timeline, echoing down the halls:

"There's no algorithm!", others respond.
"If you don't post anything or set up your profile, we won't follow back!" cries another.
Voices somewhere along the line begin chanting "Linux Linux Linux"
Then, all at once, a deep voice penetrates the din: "Don't you dare forget Alt Text!"

@BrentToderian maybe this is why supposedly liberal billionaires don’t buy media. It’s a money losing investment, but for them it doesn’t turn into gains in other investments. It only works if you’re trying to turn public goods into private gains.

@ellyxir @codemonkeymike @Nickiquote my one caution about the moka pot is that if the escape valve clogs they can explode. I have a friend who nearly lost an eye. Doesn’t stop me from using it--it makes amazing coffee--but I’m always careful.

@rysiek I first read this in 2000 in an intro to something or other course, or maybe it was my girlfriend’s. At the time I thought it was very conservative, tending toward censorial. But I have also thought about it regularly since. I may want to reread it.

@br00t4c Jokes are supposed to be funny, though. Standing on stage and shouting racist lies doesn’t actually make anyone laugh except psychos who enjoy causing people pain.

The thing that’s getting me right now is that I always kinda knew this country was at risk of fascism. There’s always been a stupid authoritarian streak. I just didn’t think it would look so much like interwar Germany.

Do you ever think about the fact that the word gym comes for the Greek for naked, and that when you say “I’m going to the gym” it means “I’m going to the naked”?
Anyway, I need to find a new gym. Any suggestions?

@cazabon my understanding of the situation isn’t exact, but essentially a Republican donor who owns a paid weather app asked for and received a rule restricting the ability of NOAA to deliver weather information directly. It has to pass through his paid app. Other can correct me if I’m wrong.
