@aral I remember doing something similar with Palm Pre 2 and HP Pre 3 running webOS. The Android runner worked half the time.
I am not sure we'll ever trully be able to run that stuff outside iOS or Android unless some legislation is put in place to foster it.
@aral I saw here today that the company doesn't seem to be a good FOSS player and been toxic to their contributors. Before today, I was totally unaware of them.
I don't think I could run a Linux phone as a primary device cause I need government and banking apps that are only available to iOS or Android.
@aral am fumming here
Posted a long rant about #Apple and how they lost me after being a user for 26 years:
@julian that was a very interesting read. I think I can implement this. Will try a small experiement soon. Thanks for sharing.
@cwebber that whole relicensing and this slop reply are vomit inducing.
Alexandre,
An append-only log does not a blockchain makes.
SSB uses an append-only log that is cryptographically signed.
There is no proof of stake, no proof of work, no artificial scarcity, there are no tokens. It is not a blockchain.
Please, don't spread fud.
@lxo @cy @strypey not sure I like Jami cause I'm not that fond of using cryptocurrency or blockchains
@strypey @cy the fediverse is indeed cool, but it is not the p2p I aim for. It is very costly to run an instance in terms of bandwidth and also it is server to server and that is just federation, which is cool in its own way but not comparable. It has the best of both worlds and also the worst.
Lots of exciting #decentralization protocols and technology out there. Some are not ready for usage, others are not following the paradigm I prefer, I love that we're spoiled for choice.
IMO I still love #SecureScuttlebutt, for me it is still the best offline-first local-first gossip protocol out there. Yes, it has dangerous corners and design issues, but it works and I can build apps with it for my friends.
I been enjoying #soapmaking for a couple years now. I love listening to audiobooks while letting myself go a bit automatic making cute soaps and massage bars. Here are some of favourites I made.
(Also attempting to crosspost images with alt text from #BlogCat for the first time, let's hope it works)
@loyhena looks good doesn't it? still, such a pain to use huahuaauhahu tentacles are very easy to break.
I used to enjoy browsing Hacker News a lot 10 years ago. It was a good place to find new stuff and be excited about computing. These days, it is just AI bullshit on top of AI bullshit.
I has become so unusable, I'm tempted to write a WebExtension to remove AI entries.

@djsumdog not a single good technical reason. I just see Mastodon, Pleroma, and Misskey as larger than what I'd want for a single user instance. They'd be awesome if I was hosting a small community.
I might be planning to self-host on an old ThinkCentre at my house. So being nimble is a requirement.
@chuck thanks and thanks for the link. Gonna check it out.
@cadusilva thank u, gonna check it out.
hey #fediverse what is the current #activitypub server that provides features similar to #mastodon or #pleroma that uses the fewest resources? Is there anything there that is good for single user instances?
I'm aware of GoToSocial and Honk but wondering what else is there.
@mauve love it!
