Been saying this since the first Max fell out of the sky. DoD contracts might not be enough to keep Boeing alive now. This is a real existential crisis.
@tokyo_0 When I nap, I find that if I nap for 90 minutes I feel more alert when I wake up than if I nap for 2 hours. I think this is because I'm moving into a new sleep cycle. I discovered this through trial and error. But some people find going to a sleep clinic to be worthwhile. If you have that resource available to you, you might consider it.
@tokyo_0 I've read that it's important to complete each sleep cycle, about 90 minutes to 2 hours for most of us. If you wake up before you complete the REM stage, you tend to feel groggier. I find this to be generally true.
@WarnerCrocker@davidtoddmccarty We need to create a whole new cabinet-level agency to oversee and regulate the tech sector. It's the only way. Otherwise it's only a matter of time before something spirals out of control. And it might anyway even with a well prepared government.
Let's say a tech billionaire decides to buy Google and shut down Gmail. No reason. He managed to buy all the shares, now owns the company, and decided he just doesn't like providing email services. No, they aren't going to sell this division, they are just shutting it down in 30 days. If you haven't migrated and saved everything in time, tough luck. You lose everything. Gov't powerless bc terms of service allow them to do this. Anyone think this is far fetched? I sure don't.
@caban4@tokyo_0@paninid Threads is essentially Facebook for Mastodon. At least it's owned by Zuckerberg. You can keep that shit completely away from me. This is why I plan to switch instances to one that blocks Threads.
@tokyo_0@paninid Thanks for that. If it becomes a problem for me I'll go fully private. I don't know if mastodon.world blocks Threads. I'm guessing it doesn't. I may need to switch instances again at some point down the road.
@tokyo_0@paninid This is what I was looking for and couldn't find a few minutes ago. You can block the entire Threads domain and prevent anyone on that platform from interacting with you. This is one of the founders of Mastodon:
@tokyo_0 Understood. But always try to think of ways you can do what you love out on your own. The timing may not be right currently -- you might need to develop more expertise to do freelance consulting work for example -- but the opportunity will eventually present itself. Seize it when the time comes.
@tokyo_0 It's funny, I was drawn to my current profession decades ago, but I didn't have enough faith in myself and spent way too many years working for other people. Now my days are entirely my own. If I decide one morning to take the day off, I can do that. Whatever you decide to do, I cannot recommend self-employment more highly. Find a way to work for yourself instead of someone else.
@tokyo_0 I think it definitely depends on the individual. Some people thrive in a highly organized environment. Others, like me, begin to feel like they've created a prison for themselves. I am now in a profession with no set schedule at all and I'm the happiest I've ever been professionally.
@tokyo_0 In reading this thread, I am struck by the notion that this is great, but it's not something you want to do all the time. Having unfettered time is very important to my mental health, I've found. Be sure to leave yourself the space to just goof off.
