@skinnylatte
Do you get deliveries from Weee? They have a large catalog of items (and they're not Amazon, thankfully).

Actions have consequences — eventually:

"The United States Congress faces a Friday deadline to pass a budget for the 2025 fiscal year, or else face the shuttering of nonessential government functions."

"trump and his allies have pressured Republicans in the United States to ditch a short-term spending bill designed to avert a government shutdown."

Shocked (not) — Musk helped kill that congressional spending bill, but much of what he spread was misinformation

Somewhat speculative but a good overview of what the impact of a US Government shutdown might be, as well as some history of shutdowns. https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2024/why-is-the-government-shutting-down/ v @Poynter

Musk is worse than a rogue state:
- There is no supranationalist coalition attempting to rein him in.
- Musk is a fool's fool and a sycophant, with an intel 🙃 staff of one (himself). He is a gullible lackey of those with the worst intentions.

Agree. The world is full of resilience in ways that are unexpected, however. I wish we weren't at the point where "rewilding" or "de-extinction" were not regarded as panaceas, however, but this story about raising awareness through tech of a dying language and culture that is only commemorated where it has been extinguished made me smile (there's no business case for it yet they went ahead with it; how rare is that these days):

Wonderful (IMO) article obliquely related from 2021. Hope you enjoy it —

Useful for a certain narcissistic, orange psychopath who would rather golf and watch TV than do anything serious — and who is devoid of intellect other than an ability to scheme about retribution against perceived enemies — anyone who is not sufficiently sycophantic.

Should be more than five minutes of training material available online. Can we get one of these made as a public service?

@ai6yr @Lazarou
It's all so embarrassing. The USG is about to be run by a bunch of narcissistic, petty jealous clowns with extreme visions of revenge/retribution, and their henchmen are a bunch of morons with guns.

What could go wrong...

"‘The data on extreme human ageing is rotten from the inside out’ – Ig Nobel winner Saul Justin Newman"

"Regions where people most often reach 100-110 years old are the ones where there’s the most pressure to commit pension fraud, and they also have the worst [birth and death] records [and/or registries]."

Interesting to see if there is follow up beyond the work of a single researcher.

“'The consumption of raw milk, raw meat and raw eggs is a right-wing subculture that has been growing in popularity over the last few years,' Dr. Leidig said."

Why? What could the one possibly have to do with the other??

@GottaLaff @Eetschrijver @rameshgupta @SteveThompson
Very good cartoon. Idealism versus pragmatic reality. This 👇= best brief essay/OpEd I've seen stating the same thing, perhaps with a bit more substance to back up the message:

"Abandoning Biden could repeat the 1968 mistakes that helped elect Nixon" (me: only this would be much worse*) https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/5/12/2239229/-Abandoning-Biden-could-repeat-the-1968-mistakes-that-helped-elect-Nixon

Somehow amidst other chaos he caused, I missed trump’s "designation of gun and ammunition retailers as critical infrastructure during Covid." 🤔 I guess they were important for fighting the pandemic — like bleach.

Anyway, on the more important point here, if, as he claims, he won the last election already, wouldn't this be talk of a fourth term??
