Needless to say, the cancelation of my NYT subscription looks better every day.
If you are not already aware of ballot curing efforts in PA to try and get Bob Casey across the finish line as well as possibly other down ballot candidates, here are the two Mobilize links for curing activity; go to https://www.mobilize.us/2024pavictory/?tag_ids=25416 for available canvasses and to https://www.mobilize.us/2024pavictory/event/742453/ for state-wide virtual phone banks.
The deadline for voters to cure their ballots is 5pm tomorrow, Tuesday, 11/12/2024.
If you can help out, God bless you.
A 🧵
I penned the following in reply to an email earlier today from Markos at DailyKos.com about our need to keep fighting. I expect I'll be repeating it a lot in the coming days and weeks:
FWIW, I believe there were 4 major contributors to yesterday’s debacle:
1. The RW echo chamber that has poisoned the minds of 30-40% of the country.
/1
2. The for-profit (and big non-profit) media that failed yet again to report the truth day-in and day-out making it possible for more than ½ of the voting public to believe lies about the current state of America, that inflation is not going up, crime is not going up, undocumented immigrants are neither a serious threat to nor damaging their well-being, and the US economy is not a basket case.
/2
3. The top echelon of the Democratic Party yet again thinking that there are more voters in the middle than in our base, spending far too much time & money chasing the smaller piece of the pie and alienating the larger well of base voters by failing to relentlessly standing up for all of our values.
4. Most importantly, that we do not speak with one voice from one hymnal and that ASO Communications/The Research Collaborative/Way to Win/We Make the Future must be the authors of that hymnal.
/3
If we all were to employ the race-class-gender narrative and the messaging framework built on it in our every day discourse, in framing every important issue so that the majority of Americans come to believe in their gut that it is the oligarchs, not the “others” among us who are wholly responsible for our not having what we deserve and could have.
/4
Not until we change the narrative of who is to blame and how they are dividing us to keep us from coming together to create a government and society that works for us and not the reactionary, regressive-right elites will we have a fighting chance at building the country we all deserve.
/end
Tony - I just put up a thread that includes my thoughts on why and how we need to talk to everyone in America if we are to have any chance at turning this country around (including a preface of my amateur, if hopefully well informed, opinion on how yesterday happened).
I hope you don't mind if I link to it here. (If you do, please let me know and I'll take it down).
It's fundamentally a branding problem.
People believe all manner of things that are not true.
The reality of the line not being right-left or conservative-liberal and especially not "real Americans" vs. "others", but rather wealthy reactionary elites vs working people is almost nowhere in what we have been saying to the voting public since FDR, who did say it.
But it is in the messaging the folks I point to in my thread produce and whose material I've been posting here.
The underlying basis is not short, but the messaging Anat Shenker-Osorio, the key player in that consortium, and her colleagues create based on it is.
If you look at their Freedom Over Fascism toolkit, you'll see that very brief and concise messages can be employed as well as slightly longer ones, say for 30 to 60 second ads are "easy" (for them) to construct, and certainly easy for us to repeat, and repeat, and repeat.
It's the repetition that's the key

They produce a several dozen ads during the campaign using the messaging framework all available at https://www.amplify-freedom.com/
Past performance isn't predictive of future performance, as the mutual fund disclaimer goes.
There's no way to know what the impact of Dobbs will be, especially as stories of maternal death & injury multiply and spread.
I doubt the amount of split voting will explode, but I really doubt it won't increase in a statistically significant way. I'm also skeptical exit polls can obtain an accurate picture.
I've seen the husband blocking move so many times knocking doors.
National numbers for '22 are not relevant. Simon Rosenberg spoke about this expense extensively, that there were two elections in '22, one in the Battleground States where Dobbs impacted, another in the rest.
I don't see how you can get only white married women using the available filtering, but here are white women and married women for Fetterman in Pennsylvania, who did substantially worse than Shapiro, in part because of his stroke.
The MAGA movement having traded their dog-whistles for bull-horns, there's lots of explicitly racist stuff from today's 1939 Nazi rally reminder in New York City.
Please do not share their words.
Repeating their words helps them, not us, no matter how much time you spend explaining why it's unacceptable.
Characterize it. Say what they're trying to accomplish with it. Talk about how we will again defend our values and make Trump a loser, again; leave their words in the gutter where they belong.
I look forward to a felony conviction and an ultimatum to the boards of directors of his companies to remove him from management or loose their federal contracts, loan guarantees, etc. (or have the government take control if national security is at stake).

"By pointing to McKinley’s presidency to justify his economic plan, Trump gives away the game. The McKinley years were those of the Gilded Age, in which industrialists amassed fortunes that they spent in spectacular displays."
You think wealth inequality is bad now?
Trump's tariffs would make it WAY worse.
Read on to learn what history has to teach us about what Trump's tariffs would really do.

This is important. The relative cost of groceries are LOWER today than they were for most of TFG's term in office.
Wages have risen FASTER than the cost of groceries.
Here's a report on this from the Congressional Budget Office.
"For households in every quintile (or fifth) of the income distribution, the share of income required to pay for their 2019 consumption bundle decreased, on average, because income grew faster than prices did over that four-year period"
Pretty much every other major union would beg to differ.

And make them pay for the branding...
