@mekkaokereke@james the fact that I've wanted a way to subscribe to blocklists on Mastodon as a kind of "web of trust" feature that would be EASIEST to do with ActivityPub since
y'know
publishing payloads is KIND OF THE THING
and BlueSky just like does that from the jump...
It's baffling to me. That Mastodon has resisted this kind of idea for this long, I mean.
@killyourfm@akhenaton I kind of missed the mark on that one 'cause I assumed VALVe did their homework on GPU-accelerated encoding and dumping on Windows. That one's on me.
Unless this is recording on Linux via Chimera/Bazzite/etc, in which case, wot.
@killyourfm I was gonna yell at the iGPU but then I realized that if Steam used the iGPU for encoding and the dGPU for rendering, there would *literally not be a performance delta*.
Beyond that, scaling up 720p to native-res should NOT take that much processing power.
Beyond deck-specific optimizations (SteamDeck=1 environment variable anyone?), seeing as the GPU in that laptop is LITERALLY 5 TIMES THE MUSCLE, *and* has dedicated memory, this shit is beyond me.
The hoops through which I need to jump to sign into my addons mozilla.org account in Thunderbird are UNREAL.
* Need ThunderWebTabs * Need to open the addons page in thunderbird * Then need to copy the sign in LINK and not click it * Then I need to open that link VIA THUNDERWEBTABS
And only THEN does Thunderbird allow me to be signed into the extensions site.
* Synapse and Dendrite pre-date the Matrix Foundation * Matrix devs *created* Element * Matrix devs *bestowed* Synapse and Dendrite to the Matrix Foundation * Element is now forking Synapse and Dendrite for... reasons?
Does this make any sort of sense or is someone at Element pissed they don't have 150% of the decision power?
So imagine... A Steam OS Device program. If an ODM would:
* Use a standardized AMD Zx Series chip * Have one Xbox-360 controller device registering into the OS via on-board USB * MUST ALSO have a Touchscreen * Have at LEAST X hours of battery life (can run Half-Life 2 at max spec for 5 hours?) * Have either "at LEAST 720p" or "at most 1080p" * Provide an exclusive SKU that is to run SteamOS (ODM can re-label the device with another name, but that SKU and branding would be Steam-exclusive)
Then VALVe would let them "use the SteamOS Devices Branding" and build a Steam Devices Ecosystem. Yes, it's basically the Steam Consoles all over again, but now that they've proven there:
* is a bloody market * is a functioning market ripe for investment * is an appetite for SteamOS
They are in a FAR BETTER PLACE than, uh, "last time".
Honestly? I trust any "big" interests buying up "bigger" instances like mstdn.jp, mstdn.cloud and pawoo.net about as far as far as I can throw them.
THAT. BEING. SAID.
I can also understand that the former admins may have NEEDED to sell because the maintenance cost was snowballing.
So, I can only hope the "new owners" don't abuse their position. At the very least, Suji sounds receptive to criticism, instead of being a blusterous arsehat.
