   @lexinova @Waterfox @arstechnica Firewall check can be disabled. I'm pretty sure that's the same thing as captive portal check. In any case I measured zero network activity on starting Firefox. I had a list of knobs, plus a procedure: searching about:config show-all for every instance of mozilla.org and their other domains and clearing or dummying the values.

   @th @vkc I am 99% certain this happened in 1998 or 1999, but I am no longer the keeper of Mozilla.org's intellectual property.

   Firefox: There is a common argument that browsers are being built in a way that is reliant on the Chromium base, and therefore it’s therefore better to look towards alternatives such as Firefox (and I'll tackle that in a moment).    Since months, every update of Firefox is a pain in the ass. This is because they don't get the certificates of the download server (download.mozilla.org) right (see screenshot below).

   But yes, getting useless AI features into the browser is more important than a robust distribution infrastructure.
