While in the states, Meta’s threads seems to be helpful to Fediverse (with 0 donations and grant to mastodon or any open source org haha…); we remain confident that we will help find very strong and reliable partners in Asia for Fediverse. It’s sad that decentralized social did not have a chance to partner with DMM due to unfortunate circumstances; but we already know it’s very possible and likely few meetings away.
Here’s my part of stories and thoughts for helping mastodon. Thanks for reading
These events lead DMM to close several business units and unable to move forward into decentralized technology including decentralized social that much. DMM have been extremely responsible by compensation all affected clients and returning money to all related shareholders. Mr. Kamiyama keeps clients and business liabilities as priority and he’s a man of his words.
Our other business have strengthened partnerships with DMM, after their prev CEO Tarbrick left & founder Kamiyama returned; and eventually become shareholder of their sub company, with other big companies such as Square Enix, Net Marble and Bitfinex (Tether); naturally, we also want to bring Pawoo/ .jp into next stage given how big DMM is in Japanese game & creator industry. If this original plan goes well, the whole Fediverse will benefit.
Since last week, the OAuth problem have been patched by Mastodon’s official ver and we can smoothly upgrade these servers.
For the future of .cloud: Given Jp law explicitly allow certain porn; our team is trained with local compliance capabilities; however with little knowledge of European compliance etc. We might transfer out .cloud to a local partner who can do it better; while we only keep maintaining certain DID/Auth parts for compatibility with our other ecosystem apps.
The OAuth of Pixiv requires us to fork and add different features on Mastodon Org’s versions; which makes these server hard to upgrade to latest versions.
At that time Mastodon team is also very man power limited, so we’ve donated both financially and engineering effort (such as the code base of iOS ver mastodon app). More info: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2023/11/thank-you-sujitech/
I’m super glad that mastodon team have established two non profit in EU and US; and helped contributed a bit and introduced other key donors.
In 2022, through our connection within Pixiv (their director 清水, their designer Goding, and founder Tarbrik who then became CEO of DMM) we also acquired Pawoo from Russel (who is close to Pixiv and Pawoo was founded by Pixiv). This created a unique problem for us, the completely different attitude of porn content regulation of Japan and other western countries, especially EU.
In order to maintain Pawoo’s unique culture, we’ve entered agreement with Pixiv for keep using their OAuth —>
