We've been continuosly rolling out updates to mastodon.social over the past 11 months, which is good for getting stuff out there, but it's easy to lose track of individual improvements that way, so it'll be nice to put everything together for once.

Blog post for Mastodon 4.3 is prepared. There's going to be another beta and then a release candidate next week but then we're good to go. I'm looking forward to concluding that work stream.

@anon_opin Physical media like books, cassette tapes, and vinyl have strong secondary markets. If you don’t need it anymore you can sell it to someone who does. Physical media also has a longer shelf life. Digital files disappear from streaming and hosting services, hard drives fail, DRM prevents preservation altogether, and so on.

@salvomic I don't think flipboard.com supports this feature yet. It should work with salvomic@mastodon.social.

@salvomic You need the meta tag on your site, and the website in the author attributions list for your profile, that's it. Author bylines are a 4.3 feature so for now visible only on servers that are currently using nightly releases, such as mastodon.social. Old link previews do not update automatically.

@micahflee It's a shame there is seemingly nothing you can do as the app owner to stop this. Maybe buying your own ad for your own keyword, but we don't have money to spend on that.

@glyph One thing to note is that if a link preview has already been generated before it will not update until 2 weeks have passed and the link gets posted again. Have you added the meta tag and saved the permitted domains in your settings before posting the link?

@jon It's in the nightlies and will be in 4.3.

I've got good news for those who want to use our new author bylines feature. It won't be necessary to e-mail us to request your website to be manually approved any longer. If you navigate to Edit Profile → Verification on the web, you'll find a new section called Author Attribution where you can control which websites can credit you in link previews.
