@alex first up, its great that some places have referendums! Anyway, maybe the impact of public opinion on politicians shouldn't be underestimated. In India's capital, #Delhi, the long-running incumbent govt. scrapped the dedicated bus lane as soon as it won, because people didn't like giving up their toys.

Hi. Do you see any change in the very apparent NIH syndrome in the open social software development space?

This is in the context of Mike Macgirvin's specs and designs and rationales being ingnored repeatedly then and now; and he has apparently even stepped back from atleast his AP #NomadicIdentity efforts, which he had to start rather than developers standing on the shoulders of his work.

My #VPS where this #Mastodon instance is hosted are running out of space. I want to move the media storage off to a #S3 bucket. It seems simple enough – save for one thing: How do I move the current media files from the VPS to S3?

Can't find any information wether that happens automatically or if that's something I've to do manually. And if the latter – how?

Actually something that is funny about ActivityPub is that there's "ActivityPub the spec", which I think is pretty solid for the most part, and "ActivityPub-as-deployed"

I think to counter or criticize @cwebber you've to come forward with something technical as long as you can't prove a big money-flow.

I participated a bit in the process of when Bluesky was Jack Dorsey and Parag Agrawal's personal project. I also believe Jack and Parag were sincere about Bluesky as a decentralized social network protocol that Twitter would adopt, which is the directive that Bluesky was given as an organization.

When Jay Graber was awarded the position to lead Bluesky, I was not surprised. To me, Jay was the obvious choice to deliver what Bluesky was being directed, and I do think Jay is an excellent leader

like idk how this space manages to be 95% computer workers and also unable to fix its own computer problems, but that seems to be a core issue here

@lxo isn't it wishful thinking? AI needs compute that individuals and the environnent can't afford, and that corporates wouldn't let be applied against proprietary bits.
