@tero@dangillmor fostering community participation including scheduling events seems closer to the digital democracy space. Multiple options exist there, a simple effective one is #Loomio - itself developed by a co-op, hosted or self-hosted, trivial sign-up/sign-in (e-mail login), discussions, voting, etc. Example digital community if you want feedback: https://codema.in
Terminated my accounts at Meta's Instagram and Threads...
Now working on helping my community set up a possible alternative to our very useful Facebook group. Leaning toward WordPress/BuddyPress but open to (serious) suggestions.
@hisham_hm I think if techies and normies were a real distinction, we wouldn't see so many techies on Twitter - they'd all be self-hosting their sites. Being a dev and understanding the hoops doesn't help to avoid jumping through them!
I just read articles, blogs (and Mastodon timelines!) ... almost exclusively. I have stumbled into and rejected several tangents as not leading to enough learning, and have ended up only looking at tools that complement work tech rather than "fix" work tech. Its just a little bit of #Prolog so far, with #TLAplus and #Erlang on the list next.
I think getting into the #RIIR sort of mentality doesn't help me at all. There is a lot to improve on "inside the box".
- The pforth tutorial is not a tutorial for pforth but rather a general forth tutorial, and therefore hedges itself frequently. For example, notice this section where it explains that "many forths" have a CASE statement. "Many forths"? What about THIS forth I'm reading the documentation to RIGHT NOW?
- ABORT not documented. The documentation lists it as a reserved word but not what it does
@alex were there convival "apps" built on industrial "libraries" outside of computing? Is it specifically expected that convivality can thrive even when dependent on industrial output (like artisanal software depends on micro-electronics)?
@mativity@ianRobinson captain and "king" aren't the only questionable selections, "prince" Gill's too isn't convincing.
It looks like we won in 2020-21 because of unavailability of the usual suspects rather than in spite of it, as it gave hungry players the chance to play sensibly.
And, of course, captaincy is crucial as Rahane then, and Bumrah/Cummins now, have shown.
@freeschool You said "host a directory" so I thought you would have a server running. For what you describe, something like #BeakerBrowser would be needed on both devices. I think it is no longer maintained.
@freeschool I have seen at work that it is automatic with Sharepoint on the server side. Apache httpd, nginx, caddy web servers all seem to have support for webdav. @roland
