@inthehands Fuck. ICE. My kid the planetary scientist was on their high school robotics team. Just one more thing taken away from the people by these assholes.
@futurebird At our house it was my dad & his "only 1 kind of jelly can be open at a time" and since we weren't well-off he bought HUGE jars of jelly. Grape for months.
When my middle sister grew up, the very first thing she did when she got her own place was buy 2 jars of jelly and open them both.
@lazerwalker Good grief. That was the second thing they told us about them in first aid class! (The first was "don't hold your thumb over the pointy end!")
When my daughter and my Mexican daughter-in-law got married, the plan was for daughter-in-law to move here, get a green card and then eventually become naturalized. Now I'm looking up Mexico's rules for foreign spouses of Mexican citizens in case their marriage becomes illegal here.
My husband works in PR for a hospital. One of his jobs is to put up a slide on the big public screens that shows current flu activity. He was saying, in the absence of the CDC website, he won't be able to update the slide. I suggested that he update it, with a big NO INFORMATION AVAILABLE, and keep doing that until the data comes back online. He liked that idea.
I think it's probably true that people are tired of being told that everything is on fire. The problem is that everything is, in fact, on fire, and reality doesn't give a goddamn how tired we are.
@patrickcmiller I was just saying to my husband, "This is one of those situations where I regret no longer believing in Hell." But of course, no amount of punishment for the perpetrators will help the people who now face a multi-hour ambulance ride.
I've heard so much about fatphobic doctors blaming everything on the patient's weight, ignoring other problems, misdiagnosing, etc. that I wonder--has anyone ever done a survey of physicians with these two questions? 1. What is the largest amount of weight you've ever lost? 2. How long did you keep it off?
What is an example of a plant or animal that's native to your part of the world but might look fake to someone who's not familiar with it? Here's mine: Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana).
@Brad I have been waiting 3 years for someone to connect the dots between the cognitive effects of long COVID and the likely effects on traffic safety of "brain fog", longer reaction times, severe fatigue, etc.
