I found my foot-shaped darning egg and am, as predicted, full of glee. I’ve included a photo of it inside a sock heel with my hand gripping it, so you can see the idea. This sock doesn’t need darning, but if it did, the wooden form inside it would help support the sock and also keep me from accidentally sewing through two layers while darning.
Edit to add some more alt text I’d meant to put in before.
It’s sunny and chilly, I have a cat on my ankles, and spouse is going to bring me a cup of tea soon. What could be better? *ignores the tasks I have for the day*
@skinnylatte we had a family friend in the Midwest in the 80s who had grown up in a household that didn’t even use alliums, so coming over to our place for dinner was a flavor adventure!
I have this insulated bag for bringing home refrigerated groceries, and one of the seams started to unravel.
So I dug out heavy-duty needle and button-and-carpet thread, put on my ring thimble, and sewed it shut with messy backstitch. I overlapped my seam on the ends of the original seam that were intact.
Then I looked at the brand label and picked it off with a seam ripper because I don’t like advertising companies just by carrying their stuff.
Today’s decluttering is in aid of preparing for an electrician’s visit. (Normal household maintenance must go on.) I’m trying to make as much of it work toward the move as possible, anyway.
I’ve been asked for a good source of information for finding sewing machines that include such features as “no computers” and “easy buttonholes” and “less than US$700”, as well as dealing with a wide range of fabric thickness.
If you know a good website for sewing machine comparisons, that would be great. If you have a machine suggestion, that would also be good.
All the “the people you know can look up whether you’ve voted” messages are *really creepy*, actually. If I weren’t voting anyway, I’d find them threatening and offputting.
One of the sample postcard messages for that handwritten postcard campaign is similar; my knitting group collectively decided that was creepy and the people writing postcards decided not to use it.
I’ve also seen two YouTube ads with a similar message, except implying that your friends and family will check up on you.

I see warnings about this every year, but it’s easy to think that means everyone knows. Activated charcoal is put in drinks in October to color them black.
The trouble with this is that it can keep your body from absorbing medications.
I don’t know the details of which ones (I know I’ve seen lists before that include birth control), but personally I think it would be best to avoid it if you’re taking any medicine by mouth.
On this evening’s walk, we passed by a field full of random plants where there were dozens of dragonflies alternating between buzzing around over the plants and basking on the greenway where we were walking. It was a delight!
After spouse poked around in the broken electric kettle and was unable to fix it quickly, I’ve ordered a new one. He has some ideas about maybe fixing the old one up, but I gather it’s going to be fiddly.
In the meantime, I’m going to appreciate my cups of tea even more for having had to remember to set a timer to check whether a pot of water is boiling yet.
