lakeviking (lake_viking@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Friday, 05-Jan-2024 01:35:21 JST lakeviking A musing on unity... Everyone that's got a few weddings under their belt can basically recite 1 Corinthians 13 "Love is patient..."
Immediately preceding it at the end of Ch 12 is the context and the problem in the church of Corinth to be solved "All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they? All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? But earnestly desire the greater gifts."
Paul speaks of the different parts of the body of Christ and how it is Christ that placed them where they are, with their purpose and their gifts. The primary reason for splintering in church bodies is self-worship. Believing all others should believe and behave as you do. Now, I'm not saying WHAT to believe, but how to believe.
In Jesus ministry, he upheld traditions of man (he teaches in the synagogue and synagogue isn't in the Old testament) and he also rebukes traditions of man (he rebukes Pharisees for complaining that He and the apostles are eating and healing on the Sabbath).
1 Corinthians 12 and 13 makes me wonder how much latitude God is okay with between the denominations. A teacher is going to be attracted to a different denomination because he has gifts to be leveraged there, a healer would go to a denomination that has healing ministries and prioritizes that, a speaker of tongues, another. If an eye looks across the body of Christ and is mad at an ear for not being an eye, is that right? -

“1. I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. 2. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. 3. When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. 4. For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right. 5. Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever. 6. O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them. 7. But the Lord shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. 8. And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. 9. The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. 10. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. 11. Sing praises to the Lord, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings. 12. When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble. 13. Have mercy upon me, O Lord; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death: 14. That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation. 15. The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken. 16. The Lord is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah. 17. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. 18. For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever. 19. Arise, O Lord; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight. 20. Put them in fear, O Lord: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.” (Psalms 9, KJV) -

It's like Aaron and Miriam after they both spoke against Moses for marrying a Cuushite, but only Miriam was stricken with the skin disease and put out for a time. I agree, the grace given to David was sometimes vexing to me. -

Just something I had to read to say I read the whole Bible. The spirit has stirred in me lately and Psalms and Job are some of my favorites now. Just the season I'm in, I guess.

“1. Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing? 2. The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, 3. “Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!” 4. He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. 5. Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury, saying, 6. “But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.” 7. “I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8. ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession. 9. ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.’” 10. Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. 11. Worship the Lord with reverence And rejoice with trembling. 12. Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!” (Psalms 2, NASB) -

lakeviking (lake_viking@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Friday, 03-Nov-2023 11:33:34 JST lakeviking Devise-Imagine, Hebrew "yeh-gu" (1897) is only used 3 times and all in the Psalms. KJV translates the same word as "to speak" in Psalms 115, and other translations say "to make a sound." Devise has a modern connotation that shouldn't be read into it there. Knowing nations and heathens of today, something like scheme seems fine but that's me impressing on the Word and not the other way, as it should be.
Heathen-Nation, even the KJV uses nation for the same go-w-yim (1471) word. The promise to Rebeccah from God in Genesis is the same word and KJV translates it as "2 nations" in her womb.
It's speaking towards heathens in context, of course, but at the same time it's clarified later anyway. Also the use of nation, immediately followed by a description of what people, then kings, then rulers are doing against the Lord and people kings and rulers make up a nation. I think the translation as nation doesn't HAVE to be true, but it can be and I see good reason for it to be translated that way. -

lakeviking (lake_viking@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Friday, 03-Nov-2023 11:33:33 JST lakeviking No matter what, the Psalms are meant to be beautiful and good and the language of the KJV elevates their beauty, no doubt about that. I'm gonna stick with it for the rest of this study through the Psalms. Thanks again, brother 🙏
“1. Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2. The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, 3. Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 5. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7. I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. 10. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.” (Psalms 2, KJV) -

Yeah, it used to be young men and women grew up together, led by their faithful parents or spiritual community. Now, feminism has made it that the man must grow up first and become strong enough to tame the curse of Eve so she can grow up too, all without spiritual community because everyone is godless now. And then they can start a family. It's tough out there. -
