あのtootを見て以来、内容自体についても、またジュリアンさんの言葉があのように一面的な分断に使われたことについても、何かが挟まった時のような感覚を覚えていました。まりぞうさんとの会話の中で分析して考えることが出来てよかったです。（直接お会いする機会はなかったけれど、ジュリアンさんの言葉にはいつも、社会の零れた綻びを拾って紡いでいこうとする感性があったように思うのです。

@marizo そうなんですよ！！！　引用された方を詳しく存じ上げるわけではないですが、見たところ、その方は属性の「すべて」がマイノリティではないのでは、と思われました。（そこに気づいておられるかは疑問です。

その人の人種、現在住んでいる場所、言語、ハンディキャップ、ジェンダー...切り方によっては同じ個人がマジョリティでもありマイノリティでもある。

みたいな二元論ではない。

ジュリアンさんの指摘は、
自分にとって、
ある人にとって、
「見えない部分、気づかない部分ってなんだろうか？」
そういう問いかけをするための指摘だったのでは、と感じました。

@marizo 元になっているtoot見ました。そしてその方が言及している元発言も知っています（故ジュリアンさん)。ジュリアンさんの元発言は、それをここで引用した方の発言内容とは、少し違うと自分は思いました。まだうまくpinpoint 出来ていないのですが、逆に排他するような指摘ではなかった。と思うので、ここで彼の言葉を引用した人に対して、自分は共感を感じることができませんでした。

@daihard mstdn.social もそうだし、自分が属している他のサーバでもそうです。その点はfedibird が独自路線なのかな、と観察しています。自分も「削除して下書きに戻し」より「編集できる」の方が好きです。好みによるんでしょうね。

Addendum: this may not make sense to non-NYers…but even given the above, I still trust my fellow New Yorkers for “saying something when seeing something.”

Contrast: Tokyo subways are infinitesimally cleaner, on time & quiet. BUT I do not trust Tokyo straphangers for coming to my rescue if I drop and bleed.

I once fell from stairs & lay bleeding around 10am in Tokyo. The only person who stopped kindly handed me my phone & walked away. No one called for help. It’s very Tokyo.

It was Kyobashi station (pretty much the center) at 10am on a weekday....ppl were walking up & down, but no one stopped to ask if I was ok.

I regained consciousness after probably a minute or so (I don't know). I climbed up the stairs to the station master's office, and they called an ambulance for me.

This is just to put a little twist, but a realistic one, into the mix...not saying one is better than the other.

@hashitan Yeah, I stand farthest away as possible from the edge. I look into the subway cars before getting on. New Yorkers are still generally good & responsive. Unlike Tokyo subways (& this is most ironic but true) I feel that most fellow straphangers would say something if they see something. But I’m definitely much more cautious.

It's been a daily thing now to read reports of violent attacks, very often by a total stranger or strangers, in NYC subway now.

A guy slashes a straphanger's face, unprovoked.
A pair of teenagers hurtle Asian slurs and beats up a man, unprovoked.
A group of young men approaches a woman sitting on a bench and strangle her, unprovoked.
A woman splashes acid on another woman's face, unprovoked.

Some talked about mental health issues but some of these are clearly not. Just sheer violence. Why?

As an Asian person I take special care. But some of these actions (e.g., acid throwing) just happens w dire consequences.

Before 2020, street violence was often linked with gangs but now they seem to target regular ppl. After Covid some incidents appeared to be related to mental health, but I'm not sure about it anymore. And it's hard to identify the perpetrators.

So. I now welcome security cameras. Put them up everywhere, please!! I don't feel safe traveling in NYC subway anymore.

@mika_regan I heard that the tweets that reported the booing incidents were deleted by Twitter and the account that reported them was banned. What a small xxxx.

日本語の一人称が苦手です…。性別の選択を強いるから。仕方なく「自分」を使うことが多いですが、美しい響きじゃないし一般的な”self”の意味と混同され得るのでawkwardな言葉。「僕」使いたいけれどassigned genderに邪魔される。だから日本語の一人称が苦手?

Ok but Reuben is not so traditional—instead of rye toast they use fresh-baked focaccia with rosemary. This is still good, with satisfyingly thick layer of pastrami & Swiss cheese oozing out.
